I'm assuming the verse melody is stolen from Sturgill Simpson or someone. I haven't heard enough to know for sure, but it seems like that sort of thing. If you know where I stole it then please let me know.
Lyrics
I get up in the morning looking out my window hoping she'll walk by Wishing that I had the nerve to ask her if she'd go out with me tonight But I'm inside still standing here with my hand holding a half warm beer all alone With my gut sticking out too far, pants so tight they'll leave a scar on my bones
I don't remember giving up I blame it all on my bad luck I've abandoned every single dream I've had And if you ask my I will says Lord knows, I got it bad
Suddenly, I hear a whine and it slowly seeps into my mind the dog needs food And I've forgotten more than once, I feel the shame from back to front, I'm guilty as accused I'll try not to forget again, 'cause after all she's my best friend right now I swear I'll do the best I can and I would be a better man but I don't know how
I don't remember giving up I blame it all on my bad luck I've abandoned every single dream I've had And if you ask my I will says Lord knows, I got it bad
Don't tell me to be grateful For my tortured soul 'Cause breaking down and losing love Will surely take its toll And I'm not strong enough
I don't remember giving up I blame it all on my bad luck I've abandoned every single dream I've had And if you ask my I will says Lord knows, I got it bad

There’s a hint of Sturgill Simpson. maybe Turtles All the Way Down. But also of older country songs. I think it’s yours. I like that feeling of descent and then the rising back up that feels a little like a prayer. I like the way noticing physical stiff like the dog is a way to step out of the spinning mind ruminating.
Great lyric. I especially like the detail about neglecting the dog. It shows how far he has fallen into depression. This is also a great melody. I especially like the last two lines of your chorus. Great song. I enjoyed it.
Your lyrics paint a vivid picture. The longing for all the things that could have been but weren't really shines through in your melody and delivery. - Natalie
Man this is such a cool americana style song. It's got a really great melody.
Some great lyric writing, really cuts to the heart of what feels like a common experience
