Earthquake Overdrive

Liner Notes

Sapient: Is it OK to love yer own songs? Is it? Cos I freakin' LOVE this one and how it turned out. It was originally supposed to be a short exercise in syncopated melody with big intervals as homework for my singing lessons. TBH I'm not sure that's how it actually started off, but it sure as eggs didn't end up there 🤣 HUGE thanks are in order for @rosiebans who offered to add backing vocals at the last minute and in doing so just propelled it into orbit! 🚀🚀🚀

Rosie: That chorus tho! 🤘 I had A TON of fun laying the BVs for this, what a tune you've written, thanks for allowing me to guest on it! 😉

Lyrics

I need somewhere Someplace I can hide Or lock my cares away and play outside When I see what’s wrong with me At what I fear And what fears me At what takes root At what’s denied Slip the leash and take a ride

Build it up Tear me down I live for this I love the sound Of breaking Of taking Build it back But outside-in As fire flows Across my skin… Earthquake overdrive

Running from a place I call my own By myself I’ll never be alone When I see what’s right with you How you fight And push on through How you learn To stand up tall Slip the leash And take it all

Build it up Tear me down I live for this I love the sound Of breaking Of taking Build it back But outside-in As fire flows Across my skin… Earthquake overdrive

This is the first time I've heard you sing without the "cookie monster" vocals. Very nice tune, and that solo was epic. Yes, Rosie's back ups are stellar!

@audrey

Intense. Love this hard driving beat and guitar. Really great vocals. What a great rock song!

@nadine

Oh this is the kind of collab I did not expect. An electronic intro, and metal master Sapient jumping into new wave territory. Rosie has so much drive and coolness in her voice. This sounds rad!

Not bad to love it because it is more than worthy! When it kicks it up after those skip the leash lines, I was vibin, wow 🤘🤘🤘 Shred friends. This was great

This is goooood. Great melody and killer sounds as always. It’s got a bit of that Nordic rock sound, and I love it.

@beacon

This man has turned into a vocalist! I thought that this was going to be quite lyrical at the beginning, and then the drop happened, and it was like going from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds. Love the guitar and Rosie's backing vocals. You are right to love this one. Very different yet very Sapient.

Love this! Great beat, fun melodies (and harmonies!), mixes things up really well, really strong dynamics. And some wah love with a dive bomb! (Guitar-wise, I'm easy to please 😉 ) Very cool collab!

Absolutely RAWKS. Insanely catchy chorus, shreddtastic chorus and wonderful vocal inventions all the way through.

@aeye

yeah this is awesome. Definitely very New Order. You guys NAILED it. This is awesome...oh wait I already said that. Well it's so awesome I'll say it another time.

I think I like this new Sapient sound. Chris' New Order comment is not out of line at all here! Also now I wants to collab with Rosie. LOL

It's totally okay to dig your own stuff as far as I'm concerned. Particularly when it's a banger like this is. But @sapient sounding more like New Order than New Order do is not something I'd got on my FAWM 2025 bingo card, that's for sure...
