"New Song" Tim's Son and Rover Extended Megamix
by @edzard
Liner Notes
I realized/think that in the last demo I posted here I accidentally lifted a section of an REM song. This fired up the internal critic and pretty much shut me down for the month. This song started out as a joke about what that feels like and then became about the decision to just roll with it anyway and see what happens. Also a joke about a super-extended mix of Crimson and Clover that just keeps adding a new quirky or "psychedelic" instrument every few bars. Everything but the first guitar part and the last(lead) vocal were improvised. The vocal/lyrics are a "translation" of an originally improvised sort of scat/mumble. It ended up being a jubilant song about suicide? Or learning to fly? I've been trying to only allow myself one take at anything, even or especially with instruments I don't play. I'd like another stab at the trombone and I didn't pull out the vibraslap until much too late, but there is some interesting cacophony in places here. #rock #improvisation #indierock
Lyrics
Hey... Stand up on that boulder. I need something to show her. "Tim's son and Rover, shoulder to shoulder...."
Damn it.
oh by the by I know you know my sins this is another one of them
Oh I don’t know what I’m trying to find honey you know I think about it least 2 times a week when I’m too tired to open up my eyes
I have tried to put in my head those lullabies but I don’t know what happy’s like
silly I know what you’re calling your new friend about I don’t think I’m nearly calm enough perhaps there’s time perhaps it’s time
ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
standing on the overpass I know
he is not well
the men below yelling jump, well
I can’t tell
ahhh it’s much too high but I’m going to try it anyway
gliding out into the night you don’t know unless you try maybe this time maybe this time
you can make it over,right?
how long until we die it happens every night babbababobo
Love your voice.
