When Death Comes

Liner Notes

Carroll wrote these amazing lyrics last year, and we were paired to collaborate on a song for the 2024 February Album Writing Month challenge... But I ran out of steam and never finished working on the melody.

I had a chorus melody and worked out the guitar chords by summer, but finally today was able to work on the verse melody and make a recording in time for this year's FAWM. I hope you like it. I would love to build it out more once I get comfortable using a DAW and Band in a Box. #finished .....

When Death Comes

Lyrics by Carroll Kiphen, Music by Savannah Rogers

Death don't care if you're rich or famous She don't care if you're young or old. The color of your skin don't matter. She doesn't care where your soul will go.

She's the angel of mercy for those who suffer. She's the monster who kills a child. She is justice at the end of a hangman's rope. She's the fate no man has denied.

Will you be ready when she comes? Will she take you by surprise? Where will you go; where will you go, When it's time to say goodbye?

She don't care if you beg, plead and cry. She don't care if you're gay or straight. Your politics don't matter to her. She is never late for her date.

She's the angel of mercy for those who suffer. She's the monster who kills a child. She is justice at the end of a hangman's rope. She's the fate no man has denied.

Will you be ready when she comes? Will she take you by surprise? Where will you go; where will you go, When it's time to say goodbye?

When death comes will you be ready to go?

Beautiful rendition! Thank you!!

lyrics are a more sophisticated version of the ideas in the blues classic "death dont have no mercy" and the vocals have replaced the angst of the blues with a gentle folk melody

@dogladog I had not heard about those Keith Richard memes and had to go look it up. That's funny. 🤣

Thank you so much for listening and your kind comments on our song.

Beautiful...instant Americana classic. The lyrics, the voice, perfect together. The only thing I might take issue with is the line "She's the fate no man has denied" because, you know, Keith Richard...
