Pivot to Knitwear
by @vomvorton
Liner Notes
Came up with this title after buying a nice new jumper back in the autumn and I really like it, turns out writing a song about how a nice new jumper can improve your life is kinda difficult though so I'm proud to present some of the stupidest lyrics you heard all month.
Lyrics
You said you liked my outfit I dismissed the compliment with a smile twenty years of hooded tops in lieu of developing a style but now I’ve bought a jumper and everything has changed it came from the internet and cannot be exchanged
if you change your look well, it doesn’t surprise me but if I pivot to knitwear then would you even recognise me?
I may be a late bloomer but now the secret is uncovered thumbs up from a stranger because my trousers are brightly coloured I never really wanted to be the centre of attention but it turns out that well-dressity overrides jumper apprehension

This does have a different sound to your usual guitar/drums mix and I dig it. It made me start thinking about Big Star, and then wondering who wrote Jessie's Girl (not Big Star, it turns out). So anyway, I had to pause your song halfway through to go investigate this and listen to the results (it's Rick Springfield btw, I'm sure you knew that). I want to see a video for this song where you start out wearing a sharp suit/tie and then...well, you can figure it out. It has single material written all over it, so a music video would be appropriate. I'm gonna have that big kick drum sound and chorus in my head for whole seconds now, until I hit play on your next (i.e. previous) song.
The music has a real 60s-70s classic rock feel, kind of Stones almost? Or Bowie like Ad suggested? Love the deadpan proclamation about how it can’t be exchanged. Really catchy and fun!
Oh, this is such fun! Great melody and I love this clever melody. Great sound overall. Wonderful song!
Despite the liner notes here, it's kinda like how the Sweater Song feels like there's something else going on, even though you're not quite sure what it is.
Show us it, then! I have a really nice jumper, but it doesn't fit. Hmph. Ooo yeah, I'm getting some Bowie vibes from this one. The drumming really stood at to me, it is very good! The trebly panned guitars are really nice, and that's a really hooky vocal in both the verses and chorus
Long time jumper wearer here (sometimes they're not just black or grey either), so I was lured in by the title and stayed for this lovely fuzzy pop tune. Honestly, I think the strength of the song is realising that the subject is a bit lightweight (depending on the wool I guess) and leaning into that. Which is why "well-dressity" is an absolute highlight.
"it came from the internet and cannot be exchanged" is both the most seemingly pointless but critical information I have ever been presented with.
Pivot to knitwear is also a glorious phrase.
The guitar is lovely and crisp and choppy, cuts through and is generally RAWK. But like, twee rock. But good twee?
Anyway. Magnifique!
This has a wonderful glam stomp to it — mostly that chunky guitar sound (assume that’s the new amps again). Very satisfying. I live in jumpers at the moment so I’m glad for the suggestion I’ve not totally given up.
Ha...just after I left that comment, a guy I hadn't seen in a month came into the breakroom and said: You were wearing that great sweater last time I saw you. Pivot to knitwear, baby
That's quite a rocking intro and a catchy rocking tune. Dumb song? Actually, it's my new theme song. After decades of slouching around in sweat pants I've stepped up my game. I even get compliments from teenagers on occasion. Yeah, I have on brightly colored trousers right now :) Anyway, I like this one. Enjoy the well-dressity
I really enjoyed this! Such a fun song! Lovely chorus. Well done.
Huh, I think it’s kind of fun - a little like When I’m 64 and this German song called “Mit Sechsundsechzigjahren erst fängt das Leben an”. For me it’s a song about embracing aging as a chance to just do whatever and dress however you like. Knitwear isn’t an American phrase (jumper either but I know that one) so I’m imagining it means flashy polyester leisure suits - which may be why it’s taking me in the embracing early old age direction.
