Every Mile of Highway 80

Once upon a time, my dad bought a 2005 Honda Civic Si with a manual transmission, decided it was the wrong car for him, and sold it to me. That was over a decade ago and that car has taken me on some pretty wild adventures over the years. We've gone on so many cross-country road trips, but I-80 is the only road we've seen every inch of (unless you count I-94 which is only like half a transcontinental highway). I-90 is a close second, we're only missing the stretch between Seattle and Spokane, but the old girl is getting on in years and will likely never make that stretch now. Ah well.

I love road trips.

Lyrics

Sometimes I’m made of memories And every story lingers I’ve been across this country More times than I have fingers But one route in particular I’ve traveled end-to-end With the only car I’ve ever loved As deeply as a friend

We’ve seen every mile of Highway 80 The mountains and the cities The vastness of the prairie This land never ceases to amaze me Just like every mile of Highway 80

My trusty steed has carried me And kept me safe from harm Even down in California At the marijuana farm We left out of San Francisco Through the desert we would drive That’s the first time I realized How much it made me feel alive

We've seen every mile of Highway 80 The purple mountains majesty The amber grains so wavy Only a couple times I felt like going crazy Driving every mile of Highway 80

New York City in the east And heaven in the west But a couple places put us to the test The turnpikes are terrible, I wish we could faster And don’t even get me started on Nebraska

We've seen every mile of Highway 80 I could do it all in 40 hours Unless I’m feeling lazy I must admit these days I miss it greatly Driving every mile of Highway 80

I love a good road song as much as I too dislike driving across Nebraska. Beautiful work with this harmonies!

Love the storytelling and rhythms of the verses. The way you hold on a repeated chord at the end of the verse and chorus is a great break/transition, and feels like miles falling away down the road. Chorus harmonies are great!

This sounds like a roadtrip song -- and why can't we get you started on Nebraska? 😉 Very enjoyable song, my friend.
