Heartlight

Liner Notes

ZeCoop: This was the second epic song that I wrote last weekend, after after picking up my Jazzmaster with the intent of writing some big songs. It was a very satisfying weekend, for sure. Unlike the first, which was a full-on fuzz-fest, this was all clean guitars (except for the late addition of the solo) and used lots of very odd partial chords. Adding drums was super fun and then once I added my string synth, the vibe was established. Remembering that SWG had done a shoegazey whisper vocal last year, I asked if he wanted to try it out. The results were spectacular, in my opinion and totally matched the vibe I was going for. I doubled all of his vocals so that there were six voices for each part. Mixing this just about blew up my computer - it was NOT happy - but I am. Thanks for going on this adventure with me Steve!

SWG: (is working EDIT - but he checks his FAWM browser ALL DAY). So, John sent me this track and he remembered a shoegaze tune I attempted last year during FAWM. That got me excited and so I pulled up My Bloody Valentine's Loveless as a reference album for ideas on how to approach it. Basically, their recording vocal strat was like this: whisper level vocals. then do a million tracks So, we did sort of that with less than a million (but more than 3) and got to work. I used AI as a research assistant only. I asked AI to tell me lyrical themes and common recurring words in hit shoegaze songs from the 90s. It was extremely helpful and felt like I was just using a personalized version of a Google search. But AI had no hand in making, writing, lyrics, chords, etc. That was 100% us.

I'm very happy with how this came out.

Lyrics

i’m not only your imagination i’m not only your good time i can be a bed you lay on or i can be the end of the line

sometimes your heartlight your heartlight is shinin’

i’m not losin’ your eyes to dreams

sometimes your heartlight your heartlight is shinin’

Hell yes. This sounds like Lush meets Swervedriver. I'm a bit envious that @zecoop has access to live drums and all, it sounds great. I like that breakdown in the middle. Those harmonies are great too.

I'm not that familiar with shoegaze and dreampop and the like, but I know I like this. The guitars and drums sound so good, and like the lyric says, a fantastic bed to lie on. The layered, hushed vocals help with the vibe, too.

That is a rather glorious wash of sound. I feel like I need better speakers to hear. It's rather like floating on a jangling cloud. Love the vocals. Heartlight is a awesome new word

Yes! This song lights my music heart on fire. 🎶🔥 Love the groove. All the layers. Epic.

Ooo yes guys, the first thing that got me with this was the change to Eminor or g?? after the Aminor start and how the snare doubles up to get back to the A minor bit. Apologies to start with that but it really got my soul pumping ;_) Seperate i adore the floaty sound of the guitars and how stephen you have managed to create a memorable catchy vocal line that beautifully follows the bass. To be quite honest i not a genre expert when i hear music like this, its just, YES this hits the spot

This is so lovely and wet. When we get the "Sometimes" it just opens up so epically. The guitars, the vocals, the arrangement...Hits all the hashtags and makes me want to dive out of an airplane and parachute down into the middle of nowhere with a map and the belief that I'll find my way to the ocean. 😬

@sph

Dreamy! Those layers are wonderfull.

This is a vibe! Maybe not loud enough to be MBV, but certainly Swervedriver or Slowdive. Really cool.

Oh man this brings me back to my early 2000s college days. Those whispery vocals against those big drums is a compelling contrast and the dreaminess is out of this world. Epic collab!
