This is my 15th FAWM. It's always wonderful and something I look forward to. It's the best part of Winter! (...the only good part of winter?) ;-)

I've been home-recording music for many years, with music that covers styles all over the map. I do a lot of instrumental music, since I don't write lyrics, so if you have an idea, let me know. I can't guarantee a collaboration will work out, but I usually do a lot of collaborating. I do collaborations as a co-writing project and consider them complete when I find the one that fits. I've had multiple versions of songs from various people, during FAWM, but the one that I end up posting is the official song, in my mind. I'm always finding amazing new people on FAWM!

I have used some MIDI keys the past few years, but most of the time, what you are hearing is me actually playing the instruments live, including drums, one track at a time. I write songs part by part and never quite know where they are headed, and very often get very deep in layers and atmospheres. I love painting with sound.

Check out my dad's (@srcoops) and younger brother's (@guatecoop) pages! @srcoops writes a ton of lyrics and we've collaborated on a lot of songs. He's very open to people using his lyrics, and had lots of collaborations last year, so let him know if you'd like to use them!! Also check out @kovbleu who was in Treading Bleu with my younger brother and me.

Oh, and I run this thing on FAWM called the 4-Track Challenge, where people mail cassettes to each other and add one track at a time. Sound fun? It is!! Let me know if you want in and check out the songs at @fourtracktape

All my links are up above or here on my Linktree: https://linktr.ee/zecoop

My album cover is a cow down the road who was very skeptical of me taking a picture. It came all the way across the pasture. ;)

Haha. Fellow trombone player. I guess that's why we jam so well together. I started in the fourth grade and played through high school (bass trombone in the Stage Band). Unfortunately I was not very engaged in FAWM this year - too many "real life" things going on. I did sign up for the ongoing 4 Track collaboration group so I hope to keep my 4 track skills up to speed and do even more collabs next FAWM.

Taking a break... be back to listen soon!

Thanks again for the feedback on Penny. Full song w/ music is finally posted. Enjoy! https://write.fawm.org/songs/316277

@briggs

Many thanks for your kind words for “Penny”. I’m still hoping to get music uploaded this week. I’m imagining a 50s/60s style I-VI-IV-V progression. Stay tuned.

@peccary

I'm pretty rusty at the cajon, so by the time I had the pace down my thumbs were killing me. I taped them up with paper towels and bandaids to make it through the recording! 😂

[avatar]
@cts

Maaaaan, it never, EVER ceases to be impressive regarding your output. Wow!

[avatar]
@scottlake

I never got the collaboration with EF though requested too many times to count. I eventually gave up.

[avatar]
@nadine

Did you just say MIDIot? What a great word! But you're not, you just have a completely different workflow.

[avatar]

Holy $#!+ balls! You are productive! Anyway, thanks for the listen and comment. I haven't had a chance to do much listening this month, support busy with family stuff, but I'll get around. Thanks again! -Nate

@nadine

Wow you're busy busy! I also have some more songs in mixing but I feel stressed. I really hope it's better after FAWM ends xD So you work everything with hardware? I have no idea about pedals and how to set them up that it sounds good qnd not muddy. But I'm a software user...

[avatar]
@nadine

You're close to a double FAWM. Congrats! Peeking into your discography I wonder when we should collab. I already have metalfoot number 1 but the zecoop number is 2. Should we try next year, if I manage to FAWM?

[avatar]

I'm SO glad you commented on Vintage Vinyl! I know it's late in FAWM (and I'm completely biased about this lyric!), but I encourage you to go for it. @jeff9 says below that he will put something together after FAWM. and there may be others after FAWM, too. It would be fun to hear something before the site closes mid-March. We could put up a placeholder on our pages so you could add the song after the official closing, if you like. I have another placeholder project in the works now, so I don't mind another one! Thanks for your interest and enthusiasm.

@gm7

Thx man.

[avatar]
@dani312

Yes! Let's def collab next year!! I've followed to and listened to your stuff for years- seems perfectly appropriate to finally do a collab :) ! 2026!!

[avatar]
@gm7

Hi ..I asked your father about using his lyrics for a song..it's called 85. Not sure how often he checks his board. If you check with him, i would appreciate it. Time is short for FAWM...THX

[avatar]

I thought your fake band Steal The Alphabet was perfect.

[avatar]
@beacon

@zecoop @guatecoop: @katestantonsings and I are recording and refining our vocals, and should hopefully have them to you tomorrow to do your magic!

[avatar]
@srcoops

You are part of the family trio who cooked all this up so it's fair that you have to do some work in this regard

[avatar]
@fuzzy

I would say that time is short, but I will certainly try my best!!

[avatar]

Yep, that counts!

@wynia

Thanks for stopping by “Common”! Re: the brass, my musical mainstay (and that of my cello-playing husband who provided the cello) is those instruments. I have a much easier time orchestrating than writing songs (probably why I haven’t been around here for almost a decade and a half). Anyways, definitely get that trombone out! I feel like anything outside the standard songwriter instruments always gets people going!

[avatar]

Hey man thanks for taking the time to listen to the 2 I uploaded today (2/23). I’ll dive into some of your other stuff.

[avatar]

Well when you come to Brisbane you will have a very good guide and hopefully a place to stay! And contacts and tips for all over the country and NZ where I lived for 5 years.

[avatar]

Still friends with them? I would definitely hold a grudge if that was me. In fact, I had something similar happen on the Accelerate tour - my mate was doing noise control for one of the UK gigs and said he could get me in on a list, until the day before, when he said he couldn’t. I figured it would be ok, I’d catch their next tour and then they split. Bah. Never forgiven him!

[avatar]

Cheers for checking out my first two tape collabs and delighted you liked ‘look into the mirror’! I think I might make a YouTube video about that one and it’s related process at some point? 🤓😅

Looking forward to hearing our 8 track collaboration once it’s finished! ✔️

[avatar]

Thank you so much for your listens and kind comments. Really appreciate it (as well as everything you do to make FAWM the best thing on the internet).

[avatar]

Hehe - thanks for clarifying. I’m still speechless at how good that song is. I’m completely in awe of how you guys made it! Talk about pooling strengths.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks a lot for listening to Caoineag! Glad you enjoyed my dark meditation! I guess most things in music are a lot about practise. I spent half of my music "career" producing electronic music. Sometimes I wish I had learned guitar instead... I'm more connected to pop and rock songwriting, but it's still hard for me to play....

[avatar]

Thank you!! And yay, exciting! Yes, I'm back in business with my interface, but I don't see an email from you?

[avatar]

Hiya. Maybe? I've been struggling with lyrics again but if you've got a track that might suit, I can listen and see if it inspires anything?

[avatar]

Yeah, I remember your glancing backwards tape from 1999: "Zeusbunch is John Cooperider on 6 and 12 string acoustic guitar, bass, and vocals, with lyrics by Jeff Petersen. Immediately striking about this tape is the outstanding, clean recording of Cooperider's strummed guitars. Petersen's lyrics are very poetic and Cooperider manages to deliver them with a feel that goes over very well. These are songs with deep meaning with images of gods and God and humanity embroiled in searching and infinite quests. Like the best songsmith's Zeusbunch makes their vision felt by people who listen."

[avatar]

ZeCoop,

Sorry I haven’t stop by until now. It looks like things are going well so far. I am excited to hear what you are up to creatively! Happy FAWMing

[avatar]
@kosch

Hahaha - yup- the old 4 track was still operational - and I found ways to squeeze music in through one of the little holes... It was fun.

[avatar]

That's the one! I think it's something like C,D,E all major chords so has that chromatic progression thing going on

[avatar]

Thank you, yess! I'm back in business! Waiting for a replacement for my 3rd gen Scarlett 2i2, but rocking in the meantime with a 4th gen. In other words -- don't hesitate to send anything my way! ;-)

[avatar]
@sph

Yes, the bass defines the chord! Even when it is playing so subtle as in your uke song.

[avatar]
@fuzzy

"Beach Slap" lol

[avatar]

I emailed you Just Breathe.

[avatar]

Thanks John! My next song features the pianorgan! Well the last one did too but this one is a very different use of it…hmmmm what could that mean?

[avatar]

Do you have hawkpicker's address? For some reason I can't find the doc. Thanks!

[avatar]
@beej

Howdy! Are you sharing any drums this year; have I missed the thread :) Hope you’re having a great FAWM so far! Ben

[avatar]
@bijou

_< sorry!

[avatar]
@kosch

Address sent

[avatar]
@kosch

Thanks for the kind words on "FAWM Open '25" - it’s become a special morning to me, when I get to say hello to everyone 🎶

[avatar]

Hi John!

[avatar]
@kosch

Thanks for the mic-ing info… my acoustics never come out sounding quite that sweet- got to experiment a bit more I think

[avatar]
@cavesoil

Hey Z, your hobbies sound like we would have a lot in common. Also nice tunes so far! This is my first FAWM and I'm still trying to understand how this all works.

[avatar]
@jsini

Thank you for your help!

[avatar]
@nadine

I just read your comments, thanks a lot! So happy you enjoyed my tunes so far. I'm processing a lot of stuff right now. Hope to find a band for "Into The Abyss" cause it deserves a good recording that I can't do.
