The Rest Will Come

As I was writing this other song about a corpse run in a video game, I was suddenly struck by the image of people all around the world being painfully aware of the waning hours of February and hustling to make as much music as they can before the final bell. That image gave me a tremendous amount of comfort, as well as the inspiration for this tune. It's not over yet but dang I'm gonna miss it.

Lyrics

There’s something about knowing That all the world around There’s a lot of people chasing Some element of sound
Whether storyline or melody The meter or the tone It does my heart a little good To know I’m not alone

Find my mind a little rough How will I know when it’s enough No matter what just lead with love And the rest will come

There’s something about knowing A circle has no end The sun will never set On this confluence of friends My midnight is the sunrise Of someone else’s day And maybe if I’m lucky I’ll get to hear them play

Find my mind a little rough How will I know when it’s enough No matter what just lead with love And the rest will come

And we’ll stop reaching in the ether And we’ll all wake up from this fever I didn’t used to be a believer

There’s something about knowing Connections that were made Will carry on long after The final notes are played I know this old familiar ache The end is drawing near Let’s hope we’re blessed by destiny To meet again next year

@leepat

love the single note lines with the unresolved (yet) chords. lovely feeling to the write and voice and I can sure get behind "lead with love". excellent stuff!

The chord progression agaisnt the opening verse single-note section is so nice. Love the backing vocals in the chorus as contrast. Love this!

This is gorgeous. I like the doubting and self revelation that leads to resolve in the chorus. And that bridge rises just the right amount. It doesn't soar but it rises above. This is an excellent goodbye song, or rather a 'til next year' song. I like this very much.

This hits. Sorry I don't have a lot else to say. It's just so good. It doesn't need words I guess. I appreciate this so much.

There’s so much to love about this song. Those few notes hovering above that wonderful progression of interesting chords; the sense of the connection we all feel; the bittersweet-ness of coming to the end, and the hope for next year. Also hoping you’ll be hanging around into March, as I plan to come back for a lot more listening and commenting!

I agree with the comment below, a wonderful display of lyric writing, performance and very clever musical decisions.

Wow! These chord changes! Everytime I thaught it is going to be predictable it went into another direction. That's something I really love: that moment of surprise! You've got a very fine sense for good melodies, too. The chorus is beautiful. And you sure have a beautiful voice. Nice backings, too! I like the sparse but intense way you play the piano, that's what carries the song. I really love what you do!!! I wish I could download this one. Will you at least take it to Spotify or Youtube?
