a terrible beauty is born
Liner Notes
This song was originally inspired by WB Yeats' poem Easter, 1916; which is about the uprising against British colonial rule in Ireland. The British authorities reacted by executing the ringleaders, stupidly thinking that would be the end of it. However, it shocked the Irish public and galvanised support for independence, which they ultimately achieved a few years later. I wrote some lyrics about unintended consequences but I didn't really like them, so I quickly rewrote them about being in a desert, with the title and outro being the only bits left from the original.
Therefore, these liner notes were entirely pointless. You're welcome.
Lyrics
lost in this desert i've been stuck here for days constantly taunted by a mirage of my mistakes this sun baked hell from which there'll be no escape
the sand dunes stretch for miles all around my tired frame crying out for solid ground the vultures circle no water to be found no-one to save me no matter how loud i howl
in this desolate terrain death becomes mundane you make everything profane i'm the Abel to your Cain
a terrible beauty is born a terrible beauty is born a terrible beauty is born a terrible beauty is born

this is so pretty. my unsolicited advice is to take out that infernal drum machine.
Beautifully dream poppy sound to the drums and guitars, I love those little slides in your vocal performance. The title/outro is such a great hook and I think the desert part of the lyrics still works great with it.
I like your creative process and the end of your liner notes. This is such a dreamy and melancholy and beautiful song. I'm giving it another listen! :)
A great listen! Great vocals, and the instrumental backup is wonderful especially that chorused and reverb guitar,
