He/him (Dan)

Well, here we go again! The 15th FAWM for me which is, frankly, insane. Where does the time go, dust in the wind etc etc.

Quite a quiet year musically for me. I formed a new band just before last year's FAWM but that's never really got off the ground. I did do two Spintunes, Nur Ein and a handful of PRF covers (all under the name chewmeupspitmeout).

I haven't actually released any music for three years now, so I'm hoping to remedy that this year. I've got a couple of different ideas for new projects, so I'm hoping to accumulate some songs for those.

Been listening to: Bill Ryder-Jones, Beth Gibbons, Kim Deal, mui zyu, Traffik Island, Crumb, Drab City, Portishead, Jonathan Bree, The Mysterines

Thanks so much for your comment on Christmas in February. The Groundhog Day movie connection you make is amazing! :) So insightful. And your singing voice is so unique and memorable. Thanks for sharing it here!

Thank you for taking a listen to Dear America (A Breakup Song), Dan. Glad that you got the emotion behind the song. It's definitely very real at the moment and even after Trump is gone, the damage to this relationship will be long-lasting.

@vomvorton sent me a link to that Anna B Savage album too! It’s a good enough plate to inspire two songs, I think

Ah you're in the same boat at @frenchcricket then, she was also okay with the jazz but didn't like the country.

Agreed on the world music, the stuff in there is mostly good (particularly enjoyed Os Mutantes and Astrud Gilberto) but there could definitely be more of it and less checks spreadsheet "anything with Eric Clapton on it"

Our 1001 project hasn't been going that long (started in October) and we're up to 1973 so far. I really struggled with all the jazz early on. I cannot do jazz. My knowledge of music before my own proper musical awakening (circa 1994?) was hopeless so I'm enjoying it as an exercise in blind-spot filling even if the list-makers made some pretty weird decisions at times. Like, looking forwards, did they really need to include multiple Morrissey solo albums as well as most of the Smiths stuff? And there are some pretty major artists who don't show up at all, although I think there's a "they were more of a singles artist" logic applied in some of those cases. But mostly enjoying it so far!

@mobiusx2

Love your work. Let me know if you are up for a collab. I think we have overlapping tastes that could work well together. If not, no worry!

Grabbed it for my best of Fawm 2025 playlist. Thank you so much!

Hey! Welcome back! Not sure if we can swing it this year since both of us have been really bogged down w/ work & other stuff (boo!) but hoping to at least find time to record a song or 2. <3

Greetings that Dan. Do your thing!

[avatar]

G'day Dan. Have a great FAWM. Always look forward to hearing your stuff. Now I'm off to investigate those bands you've listening to. I suspect at least one of them's made up. (Port-is-head? Come on.)

[avatar]

[avatar]

Hi Dan - I'm still struggling with a bunch of health issues, but very much looking forward to the February madness once again. Happy FAWMing!

May your FAWM be filled with love, joy, and laughter. (Running out of interesting soundboard comments so I googled some inspiring messages to copy)

[avatar]

It's probably about time for a cape revival

[avatar]

Hey mister! Hope you have a good one!

[avatar]

Ah, bands that never really get off the ground. A sad and familiar tale πŸ˜” at least we have February! We'll always have FEBRUARY

[avatar]

Eh up Dan! I mean...it was enjoyable, but I think that's only because it was my own room and I had a few "I haven't seen this in ages!" moments. So, unless you've been robbing me slowly over the years, I might not get the same joy :(

@oddbod
