Skirmish: Blue Eyes in the Rain (@cartoonboyfriend)Liner Notes
A late entry for the "Blue Eyes in the Rain" skirmish
A mediation in song on our current mobility compared with that of our ancestors.
INSTRUMENT: Baton Rouge Parlour Guitar
Lyrics
Intro: (A) (G) (A) (D)
(G) Once we lived our lives In the (D) same little villages (A) Nothing much happened there 'cept the (D) odd Viking pillages We (G) guessed the grass was greener On the (D) other side of the hill We (A) wished that we could find out But we (G) knew we (A) never (D) will
But (G) nowadays our lifestyle Take us (D) all over the globe And our (A) hearts can feel as empty As a (D) hotel room wardrobe I'm (G) musing on this out on business (D) Here in Sunny Spain (A) Feeling down and thinking of Your (G) blue eyes (A) in the (D) rain
Your (G) blue eyes in the rain Your (D) blue eyes in the rain I'm (A) longing to be back In cold, wet (D) Ireland once again Your (G) blue eyes in the rain Your (D) blue eyes in the rain I (A) wish I were in Galway But I (G) fear I (A) wish in (D) vain
(G) Remember on the Salthill Prom The (D) words you said to me (A) You'd be mine forever And to(D)gether we'd always be The (G) heavens then opened But (D) carefree you remained As the (A) drops meandered down your cheeks From your (G) blue eyes (A) in the (D) rain
CHORUS
We (G) promised to stay together But our (D) jobs keep us apart I'm (A) trying to land a contract You are (D) off to show off your art I'm (G) in this room in Malaga You're in (D) Tokyo again But (A) all I that I can think of are Your (G) blue eyes (A) in the (D) rain
CHORUS Yes, (A) all I that I can think of are Your (G) blue eyes (A) in the (D) rain

Wonderful storytelling... so much truth here about the emptiness of endless options..and then to bring it back to something so intimate as "those blue eyes in the rain".. actual genius lyric writing 🌟😊
Villages/pillages made me smile. . . .
Wonderful story that weaves the past and present together through loving feelings and connection with those blue eyes in the rain. Flows beautifully. I love how love lingers over time even when it is not currently active. Very relatable and presented with a lovely melody and delivery.
Wonderful storytelling. I love the character in this song. Its a beautiful Irish storytelling song. The chorus is so strong and I like that ending phrase at the end of each chorus.
What a great song, love the blue eyes in the rain chorus, and that Salthill prom verse is just so evocative, and I love how it winds up back at that blue eyes in the rain...this one is really good!
I love the way you phrased your lyrics. And I really like the way you play as well. I could hear you as a person in a pub just playing. I found it quite enjoyable. Thank you
Incredible! I think all my loveish type songs are longing to be back in Galway/Sligo covertly. Thanks for doing this!
Awww this is lovely. Great contrast of past and present and a perfect tune to pair with a long distance love song.
I laught so much at pillage that my wife asked me to tell the joke. I want to hear this sung with multiple voices, other guitars, an irish bousouki fiddle, accordion, a tin whistle and a pint of Murphy™ ! Lovely music and the hard thuth, sounds like a classic to me !
