Liner Notes
Nancy: I've been meaning to record an @yewnorker lyric all FAWM. I sat down to do it today and couldn't decide, so I did all five....Just an acapella one take for each....Live excavation, like digging for coal or diamonds or using a divining rod to find water. The individual songs are
- Hey Old Man
- Let Me In
- Basement Dwellers
- Pie Face
- Melancholy Day
Lyrics
- Hey old man Hey old man i've been sittin here and watching Cuz you're working like a dog in the sun all day Hey old man hey old man
Hey old man You're not sitting here relaxing You're bending over planting Is it worth the pay? Hey old man hey old man
Hey old man You spend all your time here planting Why grow so many trees when You'll never see the shade? Hey old man hey old man
Hey old man Did you even hear a word of Any thing I told you Now what you got to say? Hey old man hey old man
Hey old man Why not tell me what's so funny? You're just laughing like a fool I'd best be on my way Hey old man hey old man
2)Let Me In One side sleeps the betters On the other creeps the rest We all want a taste of that Existential zest
Let me in Let me in let me be American Let me in Let me in I want to be a citizen Let me in oh let me in
I could make it happen In a diff'rent circumstance I could have a real good life If given half a chance
Let me in Let me in let me be American Let me in Let me in I want to be a citizen Let me in oh let me in
Dont know if youre listening But hey for what its worth I'd make a great American Except for the location Of my accidental birth
Let me in Let me in let me be American Let me in Let me in I want to be a citizen Let me in oh let me in
(Ad lib out) Oh please let me in
3)Basement Dwellers Well it started in a friends garage With second hand amps and Sears guitars When the girls kinda stopped to hang Well that was it we became a band
But we really couldn't play that much lady next door she would call the cops We had to find a better place My mom said fine we got extra space
Some good came out of playin in cellers We got a real cool name We're the Basement Dwellers
Then my brother got us payin gigs Money wasn't much but we dreamed big Soon the guys went away for school Cant play with myself its not too cool
I got A.I. playing all their parts I know the chops I learned by heart Getting offers to go on tour Think holograms might work for sure
When Billboard said we got the best seller I said this ain't too bad For some Basement dwellers
I'm thinking this could all go bust I hate A.I. but I do what I must A Grammy for Band of the year I know we're frauds the end is near
Now Rolling Stone's hot on our trail They smell a rat I think it's time to bail It's sure been a hell of a ride I had no choice but to use A.I.
It seems so long since I said hey fellers We can call ourselves the basement dwellers
Now I think about the Hall of Fame 25 years it's a waiting game Then I think of Millie Vanilli No matter what man don't look silly
- Pie Face I'm a Baker's daughter I got tastey treats Like to give 'em away To every boy I meet
Thought I found a cute one When I met this guy Offered him a little Bitty slice of my pie
He said he wasn't sure Then he said goodbye I guess there's some boys That don't like pie
Oh where oh where Oh me oh my Oh where oh where Is my pie face guy Oh where oh where Oh me oh my Oh where oh where Is my pie face guy
I met another boy He seemed really nice He took off after I give him a slice
I guess I must be doin Something really wrong Cuz my pies taste good But them boys stay for long
I want myself a guy Who can eat all day And then he'll stick around And not just run away
Oh where oh where Oh me oh my Oh where oh where Is my pie face guy Oh where oh where Oh me oh my Oh where oh where Is my pie face guy
I finally found my guy He's the butcher's son That boy he sure can eat He's a very hungry one
He's eatin pie all night, He's eatin pie all day. That man he never stops And he don't run away
My pies are nice and warm Ice cream's really cold He likes to eat my pies Ala mode
Oh where oh where Oh me oh my I finally found my pie face guy Oh where oh where Oh me oh my I finally found my pie face guy
- meloncholy day
My grandmas little sister no matter what they say Aunt Liza died of a broken heart on Valentines day
Officially consumption She's only twenty four It seems she lost the will to live Grandma thought for sure
My grandma always mourned her For more than sixty years No chocolates and no greeting cards Rosary beads and prayers
We kids had some candy hearts But things were quite subdued Cuz Grandma couldn't bring herself What could we kids do?
Some things we don't celebrate There's some days we just pray Valentines is one of them Just a meloncholy day
Then Gloria got cancer The doc said HPV Her husband was a trav'lin man He brought home a disease
She tried to fight the good fight She couldn't take much more He took all her insurance Spent it on his whore
When Glo was on her deathbed She said Grandma is here She'd been gone since 93 But Glo said she appeared
Aunt Liza she was there too Put a smile on Glo's face Come to take poor Glo with them On Valentines Day
Some things we don't celebrate There's some days we just pray Valentines is one of them Just a meloncholy day

I am so impressed with your creativity to change tempo while moving from one subject to another. Your clarity of vocals is inspiring. Nicely done!
Oh wow Nancy, so nice to discover you at this late stage. Really love how you've managed to put this together with the story of the lyrics. Honestly to do something accapella like this makes me imagine it live. What an epic and my fav is grandma's little sister. i Heard some chords and found myself bopping along. Truly stunning piece of FAWM magic
Wow, Nancy, what a run!!
Hey old man has a very chant-like quality. Great lyrics, wise man.
Pleading Let Me In, sadly ends on a down note. Like in real life lately.
"I hate AI but I do what I must." Dystopian. I sure hope not.
Clever double entrendre lyrics! Baker's daughter and butcher's song - what a suitable combo.
Sad family saga, yikes. Nice country style, a bit of gravely voice, very suitable.
Dazzlingly done!!
Dezonging the last of the zongs.
This is a great series of songs! The lyrics cover a lot of insightful ground and they are all well crafted. I really love the different styles of music and the gorgeous acapella vocals! What a treat to click to hear one song and to get five!!!!
