Whenever You Are Silent

Skirmish: Skeleton Key (@jem)Liner Notes
This was done for a skirmish, but when I clicked to post it my page froze. When I tried to retrieve it I couldn't. I had written some of the lyrics in a notebook before I switched to the upload page, and I used that as a start to try to reconstruct it, but I had changed things and moved them around, so this is definitely different that the original. Anyway, thank you @dutchie, for the prompt.
Lyrics
The hustle and bustle of life everyday Means never a moment to think, Except for the next thing to cross off the list As the time speeds away in a blink.
Stopping to gaze for a sec at the birds An old saying flits through my mind, Whenever you are silent, you’ll see more, And I decided I had time.
I dragged out a chair and I settled in, A cold sippy drink in my hand Whenever you are silent you’ll see more, Now their’s the start of a plan.
I gazed at the sky as the light disappeared And the shadows of the palm trees swayed, The apricot glow on the mountains below Seemed to make the noise fade away.
Instead of the steady cacophony of sounds Too loud to let myself think The clink of the ice in my drink could be heard As the sun continued to sink.
Whenever you're silent you’ll see more That came from a very wise man Whenever you are silent you’ll see more Try it whenever you can

Lovely simple sentiment that resonates with me at the moment. I need to find more silence. Thank you for reminding me. Cheers
Wonderful mantra! "Whenever you are silent you will see more" has basically been my goal, lol, I just never saw it so wonderfully put!
Love the images you conjure up with such simple, but precise words. Everything is just a check box on a list sometimes, and only when we step back do we realize that we never checked off "Live".
Oh yes, silence can tell us so much. Really lovely imagery in the lyrics here.
What a lovely concept, and I love the way you've taken the idea and developed it into an experience and life lesson. So many good lines but my favourite is "The apricot glow on the mountains below".
Beautiful lyrics, poetic, thoughtful and realistic.
Nicely recovered from the tech glitch 👩🔧 -- the song flows poetically -- put me in mind of the spirit of the poem "Leisure" by William H. Davies. The "apricot glow" of sunset is wonderfully descriptive.
This feels like a waltz to me. I can probably do some music if you'd like.
This is so true! I can also picture all the things that you're suddenly noticing. Beautifully written.
