Liner Notes

#guywithguitar #acousticonetake The writing prompt suggested a time machine. I threw that together with unboxing audio gear, which also deals with time, after all. I added a cosmic pun on “punkt zero,” a German term for the zero point field that is the focus of manifestation practices, and an imagined mystery about the origin of punk style. It’s a high concept for a short little song.

Lyrics

New machine Peel off the plastic Start pressing buttons

If there’s a switch And a slider They must do something

I can criss-cross the universe But if I want to be a hero I’ll go back in time and find punk zero

Turntable Go forward and back In the mix Track mute And enable I know all of these tricks

I can criss-cross the universe But if I want to be a hero I’ll go back in time and find punk zero

Way back in time There was a punk who didn’t know The one who got us all started But was never part of the show

History books ha I know better Than to read

Anything is possible But first I have to get up to speed

I can criss-cross the universe But if I want to be a hero I’ll go back in time and find punk zero

This is such a cool concept, and I love how you tied together time travel, gear, and the origins of punk in such a short song. The chorus flows really well, and the whole thing has a great storytelling vibe. I’ll always check out anything with “punk” in the title!

The term "Punk Zero" brings to mind the term "patient zero". An interesting intersections of folk,.punk and DJ culture in one song. Kinda reminds me of my house!

"I can criss-cross the universe" has a great natural meter and makes a wonderful first line to the chorus!
