Ukulele Horror Song

This was a day for writing a song that uses a ukulele, but I don't own one. However, I do have a few virtual ukuleles, courtesy of Native Instruments. And once I started down that road it was impossible to stop without piano, strings, and horns.

Lyrics

The ogre in the cave is calmly sleeping While listening to a bluebird in his dreams He doesn’t want to fight me He doesn’t want to bite me His tranquil state would not survive my screams

A ukulele horror song Always seems to come out wrong I write a torture verse and then reject it No one gets to meet their fate The weather won’t cooperate The sun starts shining when I least expect it

The killer on the road is drawn to knitting But wonders if the needles are a threat The peaceful way he now thinks Has overwhelmed his instincts He wants to publish books on etiquette

A ukulele horror song Always seems to come out wrong I write a torture verse and then reject it No one gets to meet their fate The weather won’t cooperate The sun starts shining when I least expect it

The fire witch brings flame throughout the winter Only when the peasants need hot food Just so she doesn’t backslide She summers by the seaside A balm for body and for attitude

A ukulele horror song Always seems to come out wrong I write a torture verse and then reject it No one gets to meet their fate The weather won’t cooperate The sun starts shining when I least expect it The sun starts shining when I least expect it

This is ADORABLE! I love the "killer" verse especially. It's got a cool, campy/creepy vibe that I really enjoy. Your delivery is great, too. Love the chord progression and the jaunty rhythm. FUN!!!

Smiling over here. It certainly lifted MY mood. Thanks for this- Char

This is a lovely, funny song. And getting peaceful killers and sunshine when you want to write a horror song is definitely a horror 😀 But you might not own a ukulele, but there should be one in your house, because I left it there last time, when I took the dulcimer with me. And it's definitely a sunshine one.

Oh my gosh, this is so fun! Love all the instruments, so cheerful and happy. Hope I get to hear this live in a Filk circle one day.

I kind of love the idea of ukulele turning evil to good without even trying too hard. Great!

Brilliant! Cool and unique instrumental blend, and your vocal distinctive and wonderful as always. Sharp and fun lyrics, too. I dig it!

Not a bad copy uke! Good entertaining listening! Ah the uke shines!

I'm reminded of Abiyoyo, with the excellent twist that none of the pacifying effects are intentional. You got a smile out of me.

Not surprised @peteralway found this one, given his uke song. Clever, and I like the word choice and rhymes. Neat little additions with the other instruments, they fill in gaps nicely.

That imaginary ukulele must be a bright yellow one! Because you can't be sad when you play a yellow ukulele! A great fun song.

I just like the idea of accidental, unexpected sunshine. We could use a little more of it.

Not owning a ukulele definitely sounds like a horror story to me :). That virtual ukulele sounds pretty good as a substitute though! I love this concept here, that uke just won't let the horror start...

Very nice balance of bright and dark here! I write a lot of dark songs on ukulele, but I am not arguing with your thesis here. :) Clever, funny lyrics, and nicely spooky vocals.

Was wondering who would write a ukelele horror song. Well done and also love the dark lyrics with that happy uke.

This is great. I love the dichotomy off cheerful uke and dark lyrics. I like the recording, too. Well done 👏🏻👏🏻
