Lyrics
Cedar shadows Fall across the creek Where we did stand There long ago The spring is bubbling I still feel that Summer sand
Chorus: It rises up Inside a ring of stones long weathered by the years It rises up Inside of me Not bothered by Our past fears
I hear laughter A game of keep away I played that game so well And now I'm left here with All that remains (chorus) I spent time Upon that mountain Thinking about You and me But then returning The answers came so freely Not in the clouds But standing here In cold rain (chorus)
Comments
I really like all the natural imagery weaving about this song; with the guitar and solo vocals it’s giving me slight camping vibes.
Thanks for participating in the ignored instrument challenge! The backpacker doesn't sound bad (considering comments I have heard from others). I can imagine this performed at a campfire out in the hilly woods somewhere.
This song instantly sets up a beautiful late afternoon melancholy. A beautiful juxtaposition of images, feelings and memories. I particularly love the line “I hear laughter, a game of keep away”. Lovely!
I'm not sure who this is in the style of, but I like the sound. It's got a definite Americana type of vibe. I like the imagery. And I feel like I could listen many times and get different interpretations and realizations from it. Good deal. But the overall theme of growing beyond what once help us back is really good one.
Hi Michael. I hope you have a great FAWM. Great guitar, lovely vocals and sweet lyrics. I really feel the song.
Hey Mike, so good to hear you on the guitar. Seems like you find different chords and emotions to express. Took a while for me to get the lyrics as there are many metaphors and pictures. Good write
Lovely Mike I think we are weathering like the stones 😄
Love this one, and really moved by it - felt like you were singing and playing right to me. Great to hear you again!
This song has some very tactile imagery... feet in the sand, down by the creek. Cedar shadows. I think it's a good metaphor for growing up - spending time up on the mountain to gain understanding. I like it.
I love a song that talks about the passage of time, and the perspectives gained. Lovely song. "And now I'm left here with/all that remains." Indeed. That ring will keep it safe, and the terrible answers always come with rain. If you live in that clime. I enjoyed the second instrumental as well--not sure if it was supposed to play in the embed?
