I'm using #cassette tapes and mostly portable instruments to write hopeful soundscapes β from #ambient to #postrock. Though sometimes I express my disappointment with the status quo via #punk songs.
Preferred #pronouns are they/them, but he/him is also fine. I'm a #queer #immigrant from #LatinAmerica π§π·. My songs with lyrics will probably be explicitly #political (all songs are political, even love songs, but some are more explicit).

Thanks so much for commenting on Say No to Mirror Life! I especially appreciate people who stick around in March to listen and comment.
thank you for listening to the demo of "Marvingaye"!! glad the indie vibes came through - initially i was picturing something like Ween's Laura, which is this marathon of a song with a molasses-esque pace and the chord progression A B C D, with the tempo turned up way higher. there wasnt really a way to make it sound more different in my head other than that + switching out the last D for a G (since I use a D already in the chorus section), but i think its different enough to sound cool! definitely gonna use it in the future.
Hi @beto! Thanks for listening to my song 'Nothing is Free'. I reckon you can find patterns and meaning in anything if you try to, and when I was making that song I was making aesthetic choices the whole time with some concious or unconscious idea behind them. My point about the song being successful is that when I sing a song to people it has to be coming from an idea that I have chosen to make into a song and express/communicate. That song was an exercise, not a piece of art - a bit like AI lyrics can seem quite effective and mysterious, but they are not coming from anywhere and are just random words in a random order. Writing real songs is much harder than doing a songwriting exercise because you have to have something real to say and then figure out a way to say it.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. Some of the pieces I didn't remember and it was interesting to read your comments while listening :) It is wonderful to hear your songs. Looks like you had a lot of fun. FAWM is such a wonderful place.
Hey Beto, thanks so much for recommending my song!! It was such a treat to logon today and have a few really nice comments on it. Hope you had a great Fawm!
Aw thanks for taking the time to listen to Postcard From Ohio, Beto. It means a lot that people are still here and enjoying songs a full week into March.
I had a great time working with you on the 4 track collabs this year. The song "I Love You" is one of my favorites - your lyrics, voice, and delivery are just perfect. I particularly love the "hold on! hold on!"
I just wanted to say "thank you" and that I'm looking forward to next year!
Hey Beto! Thanks for giving my song "Did I Imagine It" a listen. I really appreciate the kind words. I found a virtual fuzz/overdrive that works with my DAW that helped my semi-hollow sound all crunchy like that but I was worried it might a bit much or maybe too hot in the mix. Thanks for saying it worked well in the song because i do like the texture it adds.
Take care!
I'm listening to our collab again, and I so want to do more of this with you. I think we've got a good thing going here!
Much appreciated Beto. I always write songs that fit into each FAWMers style and each one brings a different skill set to the table. I love that challenge Thx again for purchasing my album. Cheers
Hi Beto, many thanks for checking out βI wish Iβd knownβ and was good fun working on our 4 track collaboration.
Would be cool if you could find an 8 track cassette recorder for next year too!
Thank you so much for the awesome comments on βCortex Cultureβ! That and βDark Freightβ were my musical adventures for FAWM. I suffer from a dichotomy that is a true and difficult affliction π€£ A desire to leave an individual and unique compositional mark while simultaneously writing catchy singable pop tunes. It is a true and difficult schizophreniaπ₯³
Thank you so much, Beto! I also enjoy FAWM due to collabs. You never know where a song ends. And I never expected to write something musical like .... as I don't watch musicals :O Just felt natural In that situation
Thanx for a great FAWM Beto. You're making of Two Plus Two Equals Five was my highlight. If you decide to work with any of the lyrics in the two books I sent you, please let me know. I plan to put a third book out soon. If you didn't get the books, let me know.
Yes you're right. Some words just can't be translated ....
Gosh, thanks! Hope you were suffering from some transient derangement
Thanks! Ending may be too abrupt... but i was out of steam))
Hey @beto really glad you like my recent tape collaboration and looking forward to hearing how ours turn out! Have we got two on the go this year? Thanks π π
Just sent you the files for our collab. I think it's going to be awesome. Let me know if you have problems getting the files. You can text me also.
I'm working on our collab. Hoping to get you files tonight!
e eu finalmente respondi! π
Thanks, Beto, for your kind words on my tunes. I really appreciate the feedback. Iβve been enjoying your songs as well - so creative!
Beto, I know! I had to chuckle to myself as I was writing the reminder. (-:
Beto, just a reminder that if you wish to respond to someone's comment on a collaboration, you need to do that in the commenter's thread, otherwise they'll never see your response. ;)
It was great to meet you at LunaStar last year when we played there. We were there again back in late January, then played the South Florida Folk Festival. Hope to connect next winter.
thank you for the kind words on "Aspiration" - really glad you got a chance to listen and enjoy it!
Thanks for the comments on my comments first song. It was a challenge to put t he requests together. I did put a track of swearing in, but it is very low volume. It was fun to make, and a good learning curve for me.
On my walk to work this morning I was listening to the newest Tape-Op Podcast. It's an interview with Esperanza Spalding about her work with Milton Nascimento. I hadn't heard of him before that podcast, but thought it was quite a coincidence that I listened to that this morning after hearing you sing in Portuguese. Here's the link if you want to check it out: https://tapeop.com/podcast/episode-101-esperanza-spalding
And thank you for the collaboration - doing these tapes really makes my year.
Thanks so much for the feedback on my piece :)
amaria fazer uma collab contigo, Beto querido. π π bora!
Can you please send me an email? [email protected] My Yahoo is acting up
Also, how can I give you a perfectly impossible suggestion on your comments first song if you shut it down after a mere five (5) suggestions? Sheesh. (Just kidding. Don't break your brain and be sensible. Not sure what that's like, but I hear it's a good idea.)
My #commentsfirst song is up. Thanks for your input: https://write.fawm.org/songs/303869
Thank you, I am happy that you liked my symphony, this is the first on that I have written, composed, played, edited. I appreciate you comments.
thank you for the kind words on "Anomaly" Beto - I appreciate it so much
Thank you for your nice words about my comments first song. That was really challenging. Though I might put my hand up for another one. It was also fun!!
I know! Itβs funny. I wrote the little song about him, but only realised his is the only palindromic name in our home once I had actually finished!! I did pick that name because of its symmetry though. All those years ago!
Thank you for commenting on my tune.
Puns? "A chord progression on the chorus is the same on as the verse, but reversed" -- yesss!! Thanks Beto. Creative & inspiring. I'll be sure to share.
thanks Beto! :)
Hi! I just finished a second set of lyrics, which could be our collab if you like them. Usually I e-mail lyrics to collaborators but my computer blows up every time I click the e-mail link above for some reason. If you send me an e-mail from the link in my profile I can reply with the lyrics. Or if you prefer, I can just post them to my page as a completed, lyrics-only song and you can let me know if they work for you. Just let me know the best way to proceed. Thanks.
Beto!! So good to see you! I'm selfishly sad you're all the way in Florida now but it's so good to see all the amazing work you're doing for all FAWMers. Can't wait to listen to your songs!
Hi Beto! Looking forward to seeing you around here. Happy FAWM! Keep being an excellent humanπ
He Beto! Thanks a lot! I send you an email regarding the faircamp embeds. =)
Hi! Looking forward to collaborating with you. I tried to click your e-mail link but couldn't get it to work. Please let me know if you have any ideas on a musical style or topic for the lyrics, or just generally how you like to proceed. I'm quite flexible.
Sounds like a good idea! Someday soon I want to join the postcard challenge, too! Next year maybe?
You had a great FAWM. Thx for all your work on this site and I hope you enjoy the sun and heat of Florida during your "non-5090" summer break. Cheers
