I Can See Love In Your Eyes
Liner Notes
When I came out as #queer (and later as #trans), my parents were not immediately thrilled. We struggled for a long time to find common ground, and I actually went no contact for a couple of years. I'm one of the lucky ones, though—my parents have really put in the work to understand and love their queer, trans kid, counter to the religious and political messages they were inundated with, and now we have a really lovely relationship. I'm so proud of how far they've come, and how far we've come together. I wanted to capture some of that here.
Some flubbed chords but it is barely 7am, so we're calling this one "good enough for FAWM."
Lyrics
It hasn't always been easy to see eye to eye Used to be just about anything could start a fight But we've come a long way; we've grown and we've changed And I'm learning to trust that we're on the same page
I know I didn't turn out the way you had planned When it came to my choices, you weren't always the biggest fans But these days I think we've reached some understanding Of how to coexist without fearful demanding
These days I can see love in your eyes And I know you look at me with pride And that we're walking down the road now, side by side I can see love in your eyes I can see love in your eyes
There are things I still don't quite know how to say There are days that I am still afraid that this might break But what is past is past and things are different now So maybe I can find the words somehow
These days I can see love in your eyes And I know you look at me with pride And that we're walking down the road now, side by side I can see love in your eyes I can see love in your eyes
These days I can see love in your eyes And I know you look at me with pride And that we're walking down the road now, side by side I can see love in your eyes I can see love in your eyes

Wonderful, I love the visual of walking side by side. I hope when I can find the words my parents will accept me as I am one day. The dog sounds made me miss my dog :')
I'm so glad you were able to get here with your parents. I'm still in the no contact stage of the journey. There's such tender vulnerability here, in delivery and melody and guitar as well as lyrics. Learning to hold space for people is a big work, but I'm glad we're doing it.🩵💞🩶
Are love can move mountains! I’m so glad for all of you! You are so right there is so much brainwashing to get past! Lovely sensitive delivery.
Sweet and loving (and I'm happy for the underlying eventual support). I appreciate that the "this" that "might break" isn't more specified, because it's such a big combination of things that are "this." I also love what you do melodically in that section.
I’m glad to have heard this beautiful song and the story behind it. Just lovely.
Gentle & lovely fingerpicking!! My ears were listening for Nova's contribution :) Beautiful vocal & lyric. Soft & delicate yet powerful--like love.
What a beautiful song. I love the delicate melody of your voice and the finger picking is lovely. (Also: hello from Mpls!)
This is beautifully written. Thank you for sharing this with us.
That made me a bit emotional. Im so so happy for you Alyx and this is a very beautifully raw song, really like it. Also: the puppy noises at the end aawwwwwww <3
I hear how cathartic this must be fore you. Very powerful and very hopeful. So glad I got to hear this
Beautifully written and delivered. So much emotion come through even in just reading the lyrics. Tremendous job.
Absolutely stunning. The delivery of those heartfelt and important words is just so gentle and bursting with love and it's just lovely end to end. Thank you for sharing it.
I really love the gentleness of the vocal and the lovely picking pattern. A real song of love and hope.
Oh goodness this is so beautiful. I love this in raw form with the hesitation in chords, it lends so much intimacy and genuine delivery. From an equally very lucky trans girl to you, good job parents 🥲
