The Sound of Things Breaking

by @headfirstonly Mod

Liner Notes

Some #instrumental #ambient fun with the Korg M3, my freshly-restored Juno-60, and a whole bunch of effects boxes. Pedals from Chase Bliss, Red Panda, Eventide, and Mooer are doing most of the heavy lifting here. I'm just happy to tag along for the ride.

The "falling apart" sound is me adjusting the reverb density knob on the Mood Mk 2. Found it by accident, really like the drama.

Very calming and meditative. Love the sounds you have going on in this. Felt very cinematic too. Those glockenspiel (I think that’s what I’m hearing) notes bring a little surprise and color. Nice!

Great soundscape, definitely getting Pink Floyd vibes. A bit of drama is always good in my book! Next year I am going to more stuff like this, letting the gear work for you. As you said, going along for the ride, what a great sentiment!

I love that title! That's right, sometimes things don't make the sound we would expect when they break. We have to listen carefully, otherwise we don't notice until it's too late... Great atmosphere, quite cinematic. The tension prepares us for something, we're not sure what will happen but we know it will happen. The "falling apart" thing sounds like thunder in the distance. Awesome.

That "falling apart" sound sounds like thunder and I love it. This was an excellent ambient track: drifting, cool, with little bits here and there for your ears to grab onto and your mind to ponder. Well done.

Lush and relaxing, very meditative sounds great in headphones

Whether you're playing the piano or strumming on the guitar, I enjoy your work. Especially the stuff you've done this FAWM. I hate that America is where we are at, but I don't know what more I can do. :/

[avatar]

lovely relaxing listen... so drifty and floaty and yet dramatic. Beautiful sonic space you have created.

[avatar]

wow, that was great. even at 4:40 I wanted it to keep going! The space with everything was like floating.

[avatar]

Really great work, the atmosphere draws in and then it breaks apart nicely!

Ooh, the tails on that piano just keep going. So pleasing. Nice full wash in the headphones. This must be the sound of things breaking in slow motion.... Those chimes are unexpected but welcome. Oh, I get it, yeah, it really does add drama, you're right. Happy accidents for the win!

Really enjoyed listening to this

My computer has been giving me some "sound of things breaking" lately with a little static when I push it too hard. I need more RAM!

You obviously don't--and I really, really like this style/genre from you. Great job! ❤️

@baxy

Lovely. That "falling apart", if i'm correct on it being the sound, sounds like a spring reverb getting hit or moved. So there is a really analogue way of getting that sound - getting spring pedal and kicking it, haha.

Had images of Harrison Ford in the blade runner universe throughout listening. Very nice atmospheric piece this.

[avatar]

These are such great sounds here, I love the washes that kind of overlap here....actually kind of took me by surprise when that high melody came in around 2:30 because I was just zoning out on all these different textures! A person could lose themselves in this for quite a while (I just did, anyway!)

Beauty. The piece has a non stop intensity and slowly pulses onward into the ether. Well managed for the ending as it vanishes slowly into the cosmos. Well done!

Great sounds and composition. I listen and something cinematic starts up in my imagination.

[avatar]

I like the depth of the notes and the waves of sound that go on forever, very chilled feel!

[avatar]

Very nice lush soundscape. Interesting crashing at the end. Nice piano chimes effect. It gives me ideas for an ambient piece (I've never done one).

Oh, oh, oh.... this is LUSH. Song nr3 has been a proper struggle for me for the last 2 days, and honestly, this is just what I needed to reset and recover. I'm now also wondering what I could get up to with my Red Panda pedal... 🤔

@ayais

Good creative backdrop. Yah.

[avatar]

So many layers to fall into. It's fractal in its soothing simple complexity.

I am a big fan of ambient music and i know why! This music makes my imagination fly! This is soooo good! Pure and wide abd free and calm! And it enfolds a strengh out of this peacefullness! Brilliant!

@netnoise

Kind of a Vangelis "Blade Runner" vibe except with acoustic piano. I like how you let the soul of the machine express itself in your composition.

@aeye

Nice use of the instruments. The low synth comes in just at the right time in this. Letting the piano just tail on was a fantastic choice. And then the little delayed piano. So much detail in this. Great use of panning too
