Rockets
Liner Notes
The setting for this is Guy Fawkes night in England. If I'd set it in Scotland, I'd have had to include the burning roadblocks at the entrance and exit to every scheme, the races with stolen cars, and the police helicopters roaring overhead for six hours, which wouldn't have helped the mood of grief and melancholy contrasting with the innocent faces of excited children.
Lyrics
It's easier when it's cold Got my hands in my pockets See the rockets fly and explode See the faces all Lit up in the night By the light of the rockets Fading as the pieces fall
The mud beneath our feet Careful where you're stepping Don't be getting burnt tonight
No hand to hold Money in my pocket Living room lights up the road No curtain drawn No need to hide The light of the rockets Still fades as the pieces fall

Chord progression is very nice! Like your voice. "Don't be getting bunt tonight reminds me of the "floor is lava" game ☺️.
Nice chord sequence. It's in the sweetspot where sad meets uplifting. The same tender bittersweet sits in the lyrics too. Nice melody. Lovely!
Oh there's a world of meaning in those lyrics! Good melody too. A keeper.
This is beautiful melody Jon, it's really tugging on my wee heart strings, especially your lyrics at the last verse. You've got such a strong hook for this song!
You are leaving this listener hanging and yet the power / message here has me feeling everything said and not said. Great Job!
This is nice. You've picked a great key for your voice in this song, vocals are really nice. Feels adjacent to something Guy Garvey would write and perform. Love it!
