Lyrics

Wish I Was

I call myself a writer Of songs no one has heard All I do is kid myself playin' around with words

Think i'll write another one A song about the sea Or maybe a romantic one For no one else but me

This songs about a guy who sings But he dont have a voice ~ or 'he doesn't' Some say he has no right to sing But he dont have a choice ~ or 'he doesn't'

I just wrote another one Here's a couple more I'll toss them in a waste basket or maybe in a drawer

This song's about a bird who sings though they won't let him fly He doesn't know he shouldn't sing His music fills the sky

Wish I was a bird like that So unafraid to sing I'd bust myself right out that cage No chain could hold me in

[Optional Refrain after each verse] Oh, I wish I [pause] wish I was

I find myself examining what it means to be called to write songs. Does the calling extend to getting other people to listen or just to writing like a bird sings. As far as I know birds don’t think too much about whether they are good enough to sing. This lyric feels like it dances around inside my musings. I especially like the idea of seeing the bird’s limitations and feeling like if I had his instead of mine, I wouldn’t have any at all. Great to gear you sing and play Linda.

Aaaand this is the 3rd mandolin I've heard on fawm, all this week. Where have you all been hiding? Such a lovely sound, your voice and the mandolin are 2 peas in a pod. I love the feeling of capturing a moment here. Very honest and lovely.

This has so much beautiful folk in it from the lyrics to the performance, I absolutely adore it. I'm also a sucker for songs about songwriting so this one hits in all the right places for me.

The lyrics really resonate. I was this writer of songs no one has heard for years on end. FAWM actually got me to get these songs out there and never really haven't looked back. Thank you for this wonderful listening moment.

This is stellar! You've got a classic voice - I imagine that vibrato playing coming from a phonograph horn. And it pairs perfectly with that sweet mandolin.

I love the humorously reflective lyrics too. It's a clever twist to insert yourself and your meandering writing process. Delightful piece of music

Wonderful! Wonderful! Thank you Linda.

Certainly, a little gemstone that can sparkle in the light and make someone very happy as they gaze at it in the llight.

Really nice one here, man. The flow is really inviting. Just sings off the page.
