The Final Curtain

by @b3nut

Liner Notes

Ruminating on my place in the universe and in the present darkness. The line came to me earlier today when I was grabbing a shower after work. Fed the dogs and got going on it. Drew a bit of inspiration from the two rounds of the Aurora Borealis we were graced with last year...

Lyrics

Colors dance above my head Magnetic storm is raging The universe displays its scope and grandeur

I feel so small, insignificant In the face of cosmic fire After all these years there’s still a sense of wonder

What is the path that I must take? I am not certain at all Will there be time to figure it out Before the final curtain falls

Before the final curtain falls

A darkness falls, a vale of pain Oppression’s toll increasing I can’t remain silent in the face of danger

Not to speak, is to speak Not to act is action Perhaps in this maelstrom there lies the answer

What is the path that I must take? I feel the pull of history’s call Will the resolution be revealed Before the final curtain falls

Before the final curtain falls

We cannot choose the times in which we’re living All we have to work with is the hand we’ve been given

What is the path that I must take? I feel the pull of history’s call Will the resolution be revealed Before the final curtain falls

Great work Todd, real depth to the textures and the voice is rich as chocolate

I honestly can say this is a level of musicality that I may never achieve. And I'm serious. Without sounding too...something, I have been giving the final curtain a lot thought lately. Don't worry - I'm not looking to 86 myself. Maybe a better way to relay it is I'm thinking more about my mortality.

Great mix. Love the vocals. The organ tremolo is so working here.

Great wide sounds, love it!

Bro, this sounds like some late era Rush, lyrically and musically. Love these lines: Not to speak, is to speak - Not to act is action. The first chord on the chorus is so good, it always gives an emotional lift. The B3 solo is bad ass.

I was looking forward to hearing your organ, and wow, did this satisfy that itch! But what really got me was that bass. Man, sweet stuff. Fantastic lyrics to boot!

This has a great sound to it. And the arrangement is excellent. Full without being cluttered. The bass sounds great. You have a clear vocal (and nicely performed as well.) That is a great title line, too. And this builds nicely. The ending repetition works very well. Excellently written.

with a horn section, this would have fit nicely on the first blood sweat and tears album. excellent vocals and lyrics on top of some exquisite organ, bass, and drums

Quality work, as always. The chorus is quite memorable and is playing on in my head now. And even though the B3 is your main instrument I always admire your bass work which stands out for me here.

Ah yes those skies can be great inspiration! Lovely vocal tone on this! I feel like the drummer has that legendary rock lock as he holds it together! And of course the organ is the icing!

This song has really big questions, big hopes, and wide open sounds to support the pondering. Especially enjoyed the lift the bridge gives. Really nice, Todd.

This is more ethereal than anything I have heard of yours before - beautiful! Like the bass line moving the groove along underneath the long “shimmering” chords. Love the chord before/into “what is the path…” Nice work for an evening!
