Daydream actors (#commentsfirst)
Liner Notes
This song was written for the #CommentsFirst challenge. Thank you so much for everyone who inspired me to write this!
Phew, you really made me push out of my comfort zone. At first I had to figure out the 12/8 time signature, as I normally write from intuition and by ear, simply by creating what I like, often not knowing what I do there. I found out that I liked a lot of songs with that time signature without even knowing. It would have been easy to create a kind of slow jazz song then, but I got challenged to write something that you could dance to. Also ethereal and kind of sexy. A lot of contradictions here. And that "elevator bossa" interlude is probably one of the most unusual and unexpected parts I wrote in a song, but I like it more and more.
For lyrics, I also had to do a balancing act between storytelling and referring to the human behavior of reenacting situations in ones head.

Lyrics
VERSE 1: Conversation carousel In my head Looping lines of Things I should have said
It's like I’m hired To rehearse my life It’s not what they say Hollywood is like
CHORUS: And for a minute I thought I was enough To light a spark Inside your heart
And for a minute I thought I could embrace This scripted twisting Of my fate
Oh for a moment I thought I had control Of every role I play for you
But now it’s daydream acting Night and day A lonely life A big mistake
VERSE 2: The stage is empty Still I fright what has been Anti-heroes it seems They always win
I’m opting out of this Strange misery A hologram Forever stuck on repeat
I opt out I want out
CHORUS: And for a minute I thought I was enough To light a spark Inside your heart
And for a minute I thought I could embrace This twisted scripting Of my fate
Oh for a moment I thought I had control Of every role I play for you
But now it’s daydream acting Night and day A lonely life A big mistake

OMG, you did do the elevator bossa nova bit. Ha! This is incredible. Great work!
I am so very impressed with what you did with such a weird mix of comments! Great lyrics, too - definitely thematically consistent and interesting. I am way too inexperienced musically to attempt a comments-first challenge, but you have fulfilled your mission. 😁
Girl, you killed it! Can so hear the Michael Jackson vibe - how clever. I'm dancing, oh yeah! This may be my favorite from you - you know how much I love to dance - lol!
That's so cool. And I can repeat my earlier comment - the 12/8 sections sound great! It's a cool time signature, though sorry for forcing homework on you! Vocals, instrumentation, lyrics, atmosphere, all superb. Totally nailed the brief!
This song sounds like a classic from the 80s that gone missing in some great archives. The sounds work so well together with your voice. And I really enjoyed the complexity in the time signatures. Ha that elevator boss break was just brilliant. The interesting fact about the lyrics is that it is about acting... but could also be about acting for somebody else... kind of a weird relationship dynamic... Great stuff!

You sexy wombat! Time to get back!
Girl, I loved that interlude. Bit of an elevator bossa?
We had such a blast at the disco last night!
Such a cool time signature in the verse - is that 12/8?
people come to hollywood with ambitions of becoming actors and realize they are just acting the part of people who want to be actors
Your ethereal soundscapes envelope the listener!
This song perfectly captures the feeling of someone who plays out their wanted scenarios in their head, but never actually acts upon them.
The replaying of conversations, changing them to how the should have been, not what they were, is basically like reading my thoughts 24/7.
Spooky how close you got to being inside my head!
hooray for being pushed out of your comfort zone! love how this turned out and TBH you got a pretty wild and challenging set of initial prompts to try to interpret and put together. kind of abstract, but the end result is fun!
