Taking it back to the old days with an out-of-tune mandolin and a patriotic spirit. I hope Woody would be proud.
Lyrics
I’m pretty sure we didn’t want a king In all our nation’s history, that’s like the whole main thing We fought a war for life and for liberty And we showed that awful tyrant where he could stick his tea
I’m pretty sure we didn’t want a king 200 years and counting so it wasn’t just a fling So we could be as free as an eagle on the wing I’m pretty sure we didn’t want a king
The founders were not heaven-sent But they wrote a damn good document “No man’s above the law” is what they said and what they meant When they conceived of the idea of the president
Yes I’m pretty sure we didn’t want a king Nowhere in the Constitution does it say to kiss the ring America, America of thee we sing I’m pretty sure we didn’t want a king

What would Woody do? This! This is exactly what he would do. Great lyrics, perfect delivery 😎
Oh heck yeah those are some Woody vibes! The line "we showed that awful tyrant where he could stick his tea" made me chuckle, as someone born just outside of Boston. Oh yeah, we're proud of our tea party, all right... ;)
Yes! You have some great details in here, and I definitely agree with the sentiment.
Oh yeah - perfect! I thinkI have to roam around singing this!!
Love it. Wish I had the chords so I could add this to my songbook!
That tells the story very well. Great write.
Woody would be proud
Brill
amen - a terrific write!
Preach! The lyrics are spot on. Good one, I'm sure Woody would approve.
This is delightful and very cheery despite the subject matter - lovely mando!
Yes!!! Totally our new anthem. Some people desperately need a history lesson!
Absolutely! The lyrics are brilliantly assembled. Some clever rhymes and varied structure. Nice M8 with longer vowels. Didn’t expect to like this but I do. A lot. Not what I’d usually gravitate toward but it won me over in spades!
This is brilliant and the lyrics are so clever! It should be our new anthem.
You tell 'em! Singing truth to power. Woody's cheering from the rafters.
