#oraclechallenge #murderballad #japanesepoetry #folklore #story #traditional Made a little challenge with @emchamps and @kellyizzoshapiro to write a tune using a randomly selected Japanese poem from my book of 100 Japanese Poems 😄 The poem is very short, and is exactly the chorus. I came up with a general folklore type story that a man getting married decides to climb his favorite mountain once more, and the mountain spirit is jealous and doesn't want to lose him to this human girl so murders him. Got a little rushed in the last verse, but otherwise lots of stuff I like lyrically.
I envision it being played in a traditional Appalachian folk style... but alas I'm just a terrible guitar player so this is the best I could do demo wise for now! I think I finally wrote a FAWM song I'm actually decently excited by so yay me.
And this is my first murder ballad!

One more cycle of the moon
till a promise is made
One last chance for me climb
Before our wedding day
Tears fall down upon my sleeve
Begging me not to leave
I fix her eyes on mine
Assure her it’s the last time

The blossoms of her cherry trees sweet perfume seducing me Summoning me to her feet Since I was child She’s always calling out to me The tempting whispers of her creeks Birthed from melting snow capped peaks Thrusting toward the sky

Just within the summits reach A shift that happened suddenly Raging jealousy Moving through the wind A veil of fog obscures my view I heard a crack and then I knew The promise made won’t come true I’ve reached my story's end

Oh... a murderous rage induced by summit fever. I like how this murder ballad is not set in Ye Olde Times like most are. And yet it is clearly a folk ballad. Nice vocals as well!

Such a creative story put into such flowing lyrics. Love the simple folky vibe, with the spooky Appalachian sound. Great job! :)
