Sitting Ducks

by @stewdean

Liner Notes

Written and recorded in one day.

I'm varying how I write songs this year, to keep my ability going. This song was written on guitar. The guitars and bass on this song are very much real. Logic x provides the drums. I spent much time taking parts out.

This song is about the many disenfranchised people on the edges of our society who become the fodder for the wants of the rich and powerful.

Lyrics

[verse] I take the bus, As only losers do, This town shuts down, As the sea slides out of view, I look to the east As I looked to the west, No salvation, From the wise and the blessed

[Chorus] As the steam rises, As push comes to shove, They gave me anger, When I wanted love And as the steam rises, As push comes to shove, They gave me anger, When all I wanted was...

[verse] I break every window, Break down the doors, I sever all connections, Falling through the floors,

Fractured and shouting, Divided by our luck, A million frightened faces A million sitting ducks.

[Chorus] As the steam rises, As push comes to shove, They gave me anger, When I wanted love And as the steam rises, As push comes to shove, They gave me anger, When all I wanted was...

[Middle 8] Ooh - you kept me down so long. Ooh - so long. Ooh - you kept us waiting. And we wait. And we wait.

[Chorus] As the steam rises, As push comes to shove, They gave me anger, When all I wanted was love And as the steam rises, As push comes to shove, They gave me anger, When all I wanted was...

[Outro] Love.

Wow this one is AWESOME! An excellent social critique expressed very well in lyrics then set up in musical dress that is emotionally evocative and contemplatively raw. I have no critique, just awe and encouragement.

"I look to the east | As I looked to the west, No salvation | From the wise and the blessed"

A compelling sound and delivery. Many concise phrases tell the theme: divided by luck, sitting ducks, anger when I wanted love. The unfinished line All I wanted was... is incomplete yet simultaneously completes the rhyme. Pretty cool
