Why Do We Have To Go Big? (I'm Home)

by @danvaillancourt · @cloudboy

Liner Notes

Dan: Michael sent me a great main guitar part, a synth part and the title and told me that I could have at it. I added a bass part, eBow part and some double speed guitar, Mason added drums and then I turned some knobs and mixed it. Best in headphones. Let me know what scene that you imagine for the audio.

Michael: It was such a nice surprise to send off two tracks to Dan (with a weird title) and have him and Mason add beautiful layers to it. And then Dan just brought it home with the knob-twisting win. Super thankful to them both for taking the time to jump in the audio sandbox with me.

Michael Aquino - Guitar, Synth Dan Vaillancourt - Bass, Guitar, eBow, Production and Knob Twisting Mason Rosenfeld - Drums

Wow the drums are insane on this one! Love the surfy vibe on the guitar too ! Got a mathrock feeling in this song, love it! Great instrumental and great collab!

gorgeous open//spacious production on this upbeat post-rock track - you can hear the hum and buzz of real instruments being played. i thought you were going to go full-on surf rock at 0m53s!! the release at 1m50s was perfect - i wish that section had lasted longer... bravo!!

Alright! I started out listening on my laptop's speakers, and it sound pretty great. But then I went scampering for some headphone, and new world opened up, in particular, that grinding bass and grand soundscape. Anyway, it's a rocking, catchy tour de force. Love the chiming guitar and snappy drums. Apparently, going big is just what you guys do as you're lounging around your abodes

I see a band rocking on the beach at twilight with the waves crashing.

Great groove and sounds all around.

This is a great mix, sounds great on my monitors. Like soft yet it hits, I can really crank it up. Great drumming and instrumentation all around. I kind of imagining running, not sure where or why.. the ending is maybe like the destination. Great job!

This is a journey. Loved the bass from the first moment. Agree with everyone else's applause for the ebow. I just let this trip wash over me - well done!

What a fun jam! Love all the sounds, textures, and drive. Reminded me a little bit of surf rock? Maybe the reverbed guitars and groovy bass line? Excellent collab.

Great eBow washes - sometimes chirping like birdsong. It sounds like a organized jam of good friends. Great!

Creative & fun! Reminds me of the Postal Service in a good way! Nice collab.

What fun... to be bathed in sound and rocking out at the same time. There's so much going on here, at the same time plenty of space to enjoy it all!

You guys. . . this has a raw and fun early Cure sound to it (at least to me). My favorite. There's a lot of cool parts to and keep me engaged here. Must have been so much fun. Congrats on the collab!

I imagined summertime biking as a kid, probably to a pond or beach. Something about the bouncy bass line grabbed me. When paired with the driving guitars is all works great.

Lovely instrumental, love the bursts of guitar and the way the synth textures come in and out of the picture. Very cool :)

I could see some John Travolta dancing oddly to this track. Great production and guitars. Thanks 🙏
