Lyrics
The Donut – Mike Delaney for FAWM25
Back in the fifties Near the Lighthouse Gas Station Was the first Dunkin’ Donuts In all of this great nation
On the new Southern Artery The first Dunkin’ shop Now more than 12,000 Will their growth ever stop?
Chorus: Let’s hear it for the donut As well-known as a haircut Made Quincy famous Eat a donut—it’s painless It fills your stomach And warms your soul Honor the donut But don’t forget about the hole
Way back in the eighteen hundreds There’s another donut story It’s really pretty neat And put Quincy in its glory
Hanson Crockett Gregory Was the young cook on a schooner He made an important invention It was more than a rumor
Chorus
He used lard to fry dough But there was a fatal flaw The outside would be cooked But the inside was raw
He was a wise young cook And made a critical cut Took out the middle of the dough And invented the… dough-nut
Chorus
He became a ship’s Captain Lived decades without a care Ending in the Quincy’s Sailor’s Home In a grave he’s buried there.
When his gravestone went missing His Dunkin’ Donuts friends Got him a brand new one So you can see it once again
So, remember Captain Hanson Crockett Gregory And his important role Keep him in your heart…and your arteries… Whenever your donut has a hole!
Haha my job has an office in Quincy—lovely city! I will remember Cpt Hanson Crockett…and grab a donut next time I’m there!
