On Track
Liner Notes
I recently did my first minimum skills test in #RollerDerby, having only been on quad skates once before for about 15 minutes a couple weeks ago, and the other members of my team were incredibly supportive as I struggled through it.
Anyway this song that came out of that is also tortured metaphor for #transition and also just puberty, new social situations, etc. I’m not super happy with it because I couldn’t find a good arrangement, but it’s my first song this year with acoustic guitars!
Lyrics
All the groups are forming up just as they please comfortable and quite at ease joking with a beaming smile I’m watching their body language as they move like they travel in a phantom groove coasting effortlessly for a mile
Ahhhhhhhh I don’t know how to do this yet I just showed up here didn’t even get to practice first and ohhhhhhhh how are they so good at this everyone’s a natural everyone can see that I’m the worst
Suddenly it’s my turn to go round the track But the surface has some nasty cracks I can barely stay within the lines I am not attempting here to act with grace Just to keep from falling on my face How’d I ever think that I’d be fine
(chorus)
Hold on now the other girls say they’re impressed and congratulate my first success even though I barely pass I can’t quite believe I’ve finally joined the team and it isn’t just a dream I’m determined now to go so fast
Ahhhhhhhh I don’t know how to do this yet I just showed up here didn’t even get to practice first but ohhhhhhhh I think I could be good at this nothing supernatural but I finally feel that I’m not cursed

So catchy and fun, the rhyme scheme and melody are wonderful! I love the metaphor and I could imagine an amazing music video for this. I’ve never done derby but I know so many great people who do it and always feel envious of their social circle. Hope you continue having a great time with it!
Oh, I adore this metaphor, and your delivery of it is just perfect! This is so lovely!
I've heard roller derby is such a rewarding experience. Can't do contact sports so am jealous! This is really cute and catchy as Hell. I love the harmonies in particular.
