Flowers

Liner Notes

This song has actually driven me off the edge haha I wrote it on the 5th (?!) of Feb and for some reason absolutely nothing I tried was working when I went to record it. I’ve changed vibe, changed key, changed bpm, changed chord sequence, changed lyrics, re-recorded it about 6 times, and now here we are back at pretty close to where I started so I don’t really understand why it didn’t work the first time. I guess it was just destined for Valentine’s day. IT’S GOOD ENOUGH IT’S DONE I’M NOT TOUCHING IT AGAIN THANKS BYE.

The inspiration for this one was a short story called Flowers from one of my favourite recent books, a queer horror anthology "Eyes Guts Throat Bones" by Moira Fowley. It’s about firsts and lasts, rights and wrongs, often at the same time.

Drums are a garageband placeholder, guitars and vocals me.

Lyrics

Out behind the town Where the billboards scream on top of us The end of things on top of us Stones don’t need a throw to fly If I look I’ll lose an eye

Raining flowers from the sky Snow drift petals pile high And the weight of them will crack the ground and swallow this whole town

The earth is speaking now Flowers fall on top of us It shudders with the weight of us Daffodils a mile high When we touch we rip the sky

Raining flowers from on high Ashes paint the oceans white and the heat of it will crack the ground and burn it down

Raining flowers from the sky Snowdrift petals pile high and the weight of them will crack the ground

"Stones don't need a throw to fly // If I look I'll lose an eye" is a great couplet! I love the melody lift on the word "lose." Great pumping guitars in the second verse. The chorus reminds me of Bowie's Ziggy album in voice quality and theme, which is a good thing.

Pretty delicate things that are actually scary evil things - a delight!!

Killer guitar - so much emo vibe throughout. The layers in this really add up to an intense experience. I like it a lot, but get it about not vibing with your own songs sometimes. :)

This is great!! Love the idea of snowdrift petals burying and cracking ground - very cool imagery. Your vocal delivery was on point for this. Excellent listen!

This is a lovely little indie gem! Nice chord progression.

Thanks for listening to my Losing Sleep!

Glad you pushed through. This is a banger. Love the chord progression. Lyrics are stellar. “Ashes paint the ocean white” is such brilliant imagery. Super dig this.

Clap, clap, clap etc. Love your voice. Love your guitar work. sends shivers.very art rock vibe. The first demo seems to often be the one lol.

Love the chorus! (and the pivot into the chorus.) This really rocks. Great performance. Feels like something Bowie might have written (but he didn't!).

Sorry you had such a hard time recording this, but the changes you made... wowza! This turned out so good.

There's something unique about your vocals and I really like it. There is a section near the beginning where I thought this sounds a little like Morrissey but then there's this other part, I think the chorus, where I thought wow this sounds like David Bowie if Bowie had a gravely, punk voice.

Really cool song. Way to go.

This is great! I love the chorus melody in particular, it's delightfully menacing.

The coolest groove, and I love the build with guitars on the chorus! Using flowers as a threat!? chef's kiss Mostly I'm in love with all the vocal dynamics and colours you got in here! Everything from smokey, husky, gravelly, to floaty, gentle and then back to brazen, brassy but clear. Ahahah, it's so good!
