Liner Notes

I rec'd this postcard from @wacha for the #postcardchallenge
It..um...took a turn - I was riffing on the tagline on the card - and thought "but not that much" was a chuckle, and kept on right by it. But it kept coming back at me, all melancholy, and shit... so I rolled with it. #acousticonetake #folky

Lyrics

Pittsburg Misses You (But Not That Much) Snow is falling, it's already grey February is here, Hip Hip Hooray Not sure where I should be today Since You left, all the days seem the same

Somerset is not that far, but 76 can sure chew up your car Pittsburg misses you...but, not that much

All the times we sat by the fire Spinning yarns about where we'd be tomorrow Your eyes were always focused on the stars Mine couldn't get past the neon in the bars

Somerset is not that far, but 76 can sure chew up your car Pittsburg misses you...but, not that much Pittsburg misses you...but, not that much

Love that low key hip hip hooray....I like the way the place name Somerset feels a little like Summer set - like sunset but for the end of a whole season...That neon in the bars, feels like this narrator might need to find someone to blow in the breathalyzer on his Thunderbird if he's ever gonna make it to Somerset to bring the YOU home...

This is such an amazing lyric! So much storytelling in so few lines, and the performance captures the feeling perfectly! So good!

I remember listening to this song earlier this FAWM. Did I forget to comment? I like the pensive mood. It's not somber. Guess it's only recalling the feeling of visiting a place after a long time.

Oh man I had to listen to this one having spent 7 years living there. And my miles on the turnpike traveling to and from relate me to these lyrics. The lyrics ache and the subtle humor only accentuates that. Great singing and playing!

Great refrain from the prompt and I really like the lines 'Your eyes were always focused on the stars Mine couldn't get past the neon in the bars' a great couplet!

What a great idea! I didn't realize there was a postcard challenge, i'll have to remember that for next year. LOVE these two lines so much: Your eyes were always focused on the stars Mine couldn't get past the neon in the bars A truly thoughtful and heartfelt song.

I love this song so much, the direction you took this is lovely. I don't find it somber so much as reflective and I adore it. I am very happy to be down as a collaborator on this one.

I asked my bike friends if anyone had a postcard I could send out and my friend showed up with this one that I thought would make a good prompt, I'm so glad it did.

Just drove the turnpike to Harrisburg two weeks ago so this spike to me. Stopped at the Somerset service plaza. I’ll tell you what gets chewed up. Your credit card from the tolls. Ouch. Anyway, nice little melancholy track. I enjoyed it.

This felt like it was a little concert in my front room...intimate and rather magical...beautifully done!

I really love that hook and how it was inspired by that postcard! The little details in the lyrics provide wonderful snippets of a of time gone by. Fabulous chorus. Love the laid back feel to your delivery.

"Somerset is not that far, but 76 can sure chew up your car" now that is a brilliant line. and i love that clear as a bell bass voice!
