It was an honor and a privilege to write a special song for Diana as she prepares to spread her wings and finally be free of suffering. She is 22 years old and is expected to pass within a few days.

Her mother reached out yesterday asking to write a song and come sing to her at the hospital. Time was critical so we organized, wrote and performed this in 24 hours. My songwriting friends Jenny B-G, Kelley and I got together last night to write it. It felt really special for 3 mothers to come together and lift sweet Diana up and bring some healing to the family.

What a beautiful soul. Godspeed, Sweet Angel.

At the hospital, Diana stayed awake for her song and afterwards we sang "Over the Rainbow" which lulled her back to sleep. Her family was so appreciative.

We took the words her mother told us and incorporated it into the song - butterflies, waves, garden, Sweet Angel. In one of her texts she said "Saying goodbye - love and rainbows on the other side" which became the outro.

On a personal note, I was so scared I wouldn't be able to make it through with all the crying. But thankfully Jenny and Kelley were by my side and we all cried at different times so the lyrics were mostly heard. It has been an incredibly emotional 24 hours but I know it has been even more so for the family. This gave me a whole new perspective and opportunity for songwriting. It was such an honor.

I am glad we had the foresight to video it last night and then when we sang it, told the family they would get a recording so they could just be present. And then I gave them the lyrics on some nice paper to memorialize it.
