Metamorphosis Group 8

Liner Notes
This song was from group 8 of the #MetamorphosisChallenge (or #DrunkKaraoke challenge) that I invented last year for 5090. This is how it worked:
- @nancyrost and @lindsaymachine chose a famous song (The Middle, by Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey)
- @nancyrote rewrote the chords of the song, and sent it to me
- @lindsaymachine wrote a new lyric for the song, and sent it to me
- I combined them both, not knowing the original song
Lyrics
[verse] Here I am over here on the stairs Can’t decide if I should stay There’s nothing left for me of us Head falling to my hands, I meant so well
[pre-chorus] Suddenly I’m pulled into you And I can’t let you go
[chorus] Can you hear me i’m asking Will you please turn around Just a few steps back To the middle
Can you hear me I’m asking Will you please turn around Just a few steps back To the middle
[verse] Let’s talk it out, what just happened Dishes crashing, words gnashing I don’t care who is to blame But somehow I know we meant well
[chorus] Can you hear me I’m asking Will you please turn around Just a few steps back To the middle
[bridge] Face to face, tears streaming Your voice is still my home I’m not begging but I’ll listen Touch my hand and lift me up
[pre-chorus] Suddenly I’m pulled into you And I can’t let you go
[chorus] Can you hear me I’m asking Will you please turn around Just a few steps back To the middle
Can you hear me I’m asking Will you please turn around Just a few steps back To the middle

What a great idea pregnant with possibilities and potential silliness! I love how (Nancy's?) piano outlines the melody, like a prompter from the wings, while the singer is sometimes with it, sometimes doing their own thing. This was a barrel of fun!
Ha! Heard "The Middle" after a few seconds, but then again it's one of my favorite pieces ever, and I just listened to it at the beginning of FAWM as a reference point for a sound I'd like to emulate. :)
These lyrics are quite excellent in their own right (rite?)! You ditched the original melody in the Chorus, right? Either that or the re-harmonization is throwing me off so much from the original I can't tell! :)
What a fun experimental process!
I'd forgotten about this. I think the harmony makes it pretty unrecognizable but I've preserved the melody. There are hints in the lyrics. Let me know whether you want spoilers or not. :-)
Be interesting to know the initial song! I like the melody and it’s all added by the percussion and your really casual vocal delivery really makes it work well!
I love this challenge and sorry I missed it this year! I really love how this came together. I don’t know the original song but I I love how the lyrics and this melody came together! I love that chorus! Great lyric and wonderful melody. The piano and the beats create a fun bouncy upbeat feel.
