- The Kingdom Of Aragon ES
A baffled king composing hallelujah.
Hey everyone: give some FAWM love to my FAWMling niece @melissacapezio !!
- Year twelve: that’s 311 days of FAWM so far. You’d think I wouldn’t be nervous anymore, but you’d be wrong. Stephen Fry said that the curse of an artist (as opposed to an artisan or craft-person) is that s/he is faced with a blank page every day. That’s the scary bit. And yet, somehow, every year, magic happens.
I’m going to try worrying less about originality and more about authenticity. C. S. Lewis once said that 'no one who values originality will ever be original', but if you tell the truth as you see it and do the best work you can, 'what people call originality will come unsought'.
25 Feb. RIP Roberta Flack. When I play the "Colbert Questionert" in my head, to the question, "If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?", the answer is always: "Come Ye Disconsolate" by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway.

You’re so lucky to still have your mom (and her memory) around to put names with faces on old photos. I inherited that box after my mom passed away and, really, there was no one left to ask at that point😔. Wish I’d thought of it sooner. Thanks for listening and relating.
Jon, thanks for the very nice comments on Restless Traveler. Yes, it's a universal theme for sure, and the Prodigal Son vibe was the one I was going for. For someone possibly raised in faith, but who departs for a while, and is encouraged to find their way back. A prayer on the lips of many faithful parents. I wasn't overly thrilled with my voice or phrasing, but maybe I'll go back at some point and try to remedy that. Or maybe not☺️.
You've had a wonderfully productive month, and I'm looking forward to catching up on the couple of songs I haven't already listened to (as well as a few more times of Ah-ooh, which I just can't seem to get enough of)!
Thanks for your thoughtful comments on "Brave Music" -- they mean a lot to me. Just listened to "Waltz Through Time" -- lovely!
Muchos gracias mi amigo.

Thanks for the comment on my duet with Tammy, 'Coming In For A Landing'!
Hi Jon! Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments on Into The Fire! I'm almost certainly going to rewrite the lyrics to remove Jesus as a "culprit" and replace Him with something more universal. My goal with the song is not to specifically offend, rather, to provoke thought! I picked Jesus because He is so well known to western (specifically USA) listeners who would be my primary target audience for this song. But every time I listen to it I feel it is too pointed at a particular segment of our culture. And, again, my intent with this song is not to offend but perhaps to be though provoking.
Again, thank you for your thoughtful comments! They mean a lot to me.
Hi Jon! Just wanted to mention I've checked out some of your niece's (@melissacapezio) music and enjoyed it very much!
Oh man, a collab would be awesome. I think I might be fully committed for this month, but can I please mark your card with a big 'David collab' for next year?
Thank you so much, Jon! Post-FAWM sounds like a great idea. I appreciate the reminder, as I wasn't even thinking about that in the excitement of it all. Your comment is lovely & helpful--so glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Broken'. The rhythm guitars are 2 tracks on my 72 Tele, one with a Marshall stack sim, the other with an Vox AC sim, panned part way left and right.
Great news, Jon! I will check it out in the morning. Thank you! … I did listen, it’s great, and I’m excited to analyze it tomorrow.
Me parece muy bien, Jon!
Hi, I'm looking forward to what you come up with. Till then, I have plenty on my plate.
Hi Jon...I still hope to do a collab. Came down with a cold and sore throat first day of FAWM. Have friends visiting now. Will come back for a listen
hi Jon, I wanted to mention that the placements of the palindrome/chorus are not set in stone; change as you see fit. I did think the rhythm of the title phrase could be thematic. --Andrew
Very kind of you to check out That's What I Know--many thanks for the nice compliments.
Thank you for your insightful critique on my song. It's always so much appreciated!
Pop with purpose! Thank you for “Everthing’s a Gift”. I believe and feel that too. Health issues triggered my gratitude over living in so much fear. I really struggled with that leading up to my surgery. Hopeful & helpful music 🎶
the last line of the thank god chorus is beamed in. i never did like my original line, thank god that my wife is not the queen of sheba, i used it because it got the point across and i couldnt think of anything better. but it hought it was kind of stupid. then one day i ws listening to the song and got the idea for the new line. trouble was, i had improvised the music and couldnt figure out what voicing i had used but found that the A chord worked, i dont have the equipment to just punch in a line so it was bound to be off kilter as well as having a different sound than the rest...but after listening to it several times, i liked the way it seemed to be beamed in, over-riding the irony of the previous thee lines with a straightforward confession. so thank you for being so perceptive in your listening,
…hey! - thank you for the heads up - for me it is perhaps the same - i could do vocals and i have a variety of synths or modular stuff to put on…
Thanks, Jon, for nice words on “Abandoned.” I’m getting such a slow start this year, but have decided not to get too stressed about it. Interesting how often people tell me my songs sound like they should be in musicals (not a bad thing!). Apparently, I missed my calling☺️. I always appreciate your thoughtful comments.
Great plan, Jon! I’ve listed you as a collaborator. I will look around for a singer with authority, or sing it myself.
Hi. Thinking I’ll post my palindrome lyric pending your decision on whether to do the music. A salve for my feeling unproductive! Cheers
I can't tell you how much fun I am having so far! Thank you for always encouraging me to give FAWM a try, I am so glad I finally did! XO
Hi Jon, I'm smiling at your insightful comment on how Gwyn captured the intent of "Love Isn't Any Fun." He's really good and SO versatile. What talent! I am so happy when he and I have a collab together. Thanks for listening and letting us know what you think.
Sent you the file for the 4 track thing. Have fun!
i dont believe waits is finished, but i had to get across the reality that he is no longer over-worked and can now take it easy because he has enough money saved. bhil chuck and i, who didnt have to work so much in those day, now have to work a lot because we are broke. the first half of the song is autobiographical, but the second is fiction. chuck died in hollywood, i didnt return to my home town and im not working even now. and the last verse, which is not included in the text. was something i improvised . while recording the song. the songs i treasure from waits' catalog are the ones he made when i knew him.. small change, blue valentines, foreign affairs, and heart attack and vine. i like the odd song here and there that he recorded later, but not i didnt follow his work as closely as before.
Thank you so much for the best comment anyone ever gave me! :)
Yes, yes I did study classical Greek. And I also have studied Biblical Hebrew which also has a dual case for some nouns.
Hi Jon! Thanks for that comment, and lovely to see you on here (can't believe it's been nearly a year since the FOP?!). Hoping from some new JM material soon :)
thanks for the listens, and welcome back!
Great to see you back, Jon. No pressure but I’ve long admired your creations.
Empowerment! I like that. Thank you for listening and providing useful feedback for me!
Hey, there! Have a fun one, too!
Hey friend!
Hello there, I share the nerves but look forward to sharing the music! Happy Feb.
Thank you for the kind words on my song, "So Many Faces."
Hey Jon! I love XTC, but Woody was good too :)
Nice to see you, Jon. Let the fun (and Mr Collie’s background vocals) begin!
Thanks for the kind comment about I Remember Too Much, Jon.
I totally get aspiring to sound like someone other than yourself. I'd love to sing like McCartney, but it always comes out like Ringo mixed with Johnny Cash.
Siwmae de Gales! Thanks for dropping a message, hope you have a wicked FAWM budd!
Hi Jon!!! Happy FAWM!
Thanks for your kind word Jon...
Happy FAWM to you, Jon!
Great to see you back for another FAWM!
Happy FAWMing Jon!!
Glad to see you back!
Happy FAWM 2025!
Thanks for the comment on 'Wildcat Point'!
