Challenge: PUBLIC DOMAIN

Liner Notes

So I made this as part of the "Public Domain" weekly challenge. A web search led me to https://citizen-dj.labs.loc.gov/loc-american-english-dialect-recordings/explore/ which was a really cool resource with audio clips from the library of congress. I came across this recording of a 10 year old from Washington in 1968 who was talking about her childhood game of "Old Lady Witch".

The track started with a one-take recording on my phone of a drum pattern that I thought sounded cool. The recording quality is terrible but then so is my drum kit so I kind of like the distorted low-fi effect in the end. Then cut up the interview audio, added a couple of guitar lines and hey presto. There's also a bit of kalimba hidden in there somewhere.

Not tried to record anything like this before so I found it really fun. Enjoyed trying to build the atmosphere / groove.

I love the sound of that drum kit. Cool idea and the recording quality is perfecto. I thought the low fi effect was intentional. I think I'll have to listen some more before I gather up the neighborhood gang for a game of Old Lady Witch...
