Better than nothing

Liner Notes
As anyone who’s followed my songs so far this month, it’s been a struggle. I keep looking at the days behind I am, and am inches from thinking I’m not capable of finishing my 14. On top of that, I caught a cold, it’s dreary, diet and exercise have slipped, and I’m struggling with low momentum and some mighty self doubt.
So, this is the pep talk for myself. Today I ate fruit, and did some yoga, and wrote this song. And instead of letting myself discount those as not enough? Nope. It’s progress and practice and it’s a step closer to where I want to be.
Let’s see if I’ll listen to myself
Lyrics
A single step is a mile away from standstill And treading water means you didn’t drown Getting up is always worth the effort Cuz trying means you haven’t let you down
It matters that you haven’t given up, And it matters that you’ve managed more than none Hurting doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your dream You’ll find it as you rise beneath the sun
The road ahead is rough and long and rocky So lace your shoes, it’s easier that way The mountain’s climbed with small and many moments Movement that’s continued day to day
It matters that you haven’t given up, And it matters that you’ve managed more than none Hurting doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your dream You’ll find it as you rise beneath the sun
Find the little thing that gets you moving Sunlight, socks, a vegetable, a song Know that just the smallest inch of courage Will start a wave that carries you along
It matters that you haven’t given up, And it matters that you’ve managed more than none Hurting doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your dream You’ll find it as you rise beneath the sun
Tired means you’ve fought against the current Sore means muscles lifted you above You are more than capable of winning Just step and strive and move and try and love
It matters that you haven’t given up, And matters that you’ve managed more than none Hurting doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your dream You’ll find it as you rise beneath the sun
How good of you to share your lullaby of inspiration with the rest of us. I’m singing along in my head. Yes to pats in the back for progress not perfection. I especially like the choice of lace your shoes instead of tie your shoes, as a way to make explicit the advice to celebrate the smallest first steps.
