Skirmish: Cold Enough For You? (@metalfoot)

Liner Notes

Yay skirmish! I actually got most of this done within the hour, but then had to go do birthday things so didn't get to finish until later.

I don't know that I love this--it felt a little clunky in places when writing it, but maybe it will grow on me.

Lyrics

You told me to shield my heart 'cause the world would break me You told me to keep my spark, don't let the winter take me

Now here I am, standing in the snow I tried to hold on, but you just let me go You act like I'm the one who told you no And you know that I'll come back just like before

But now my heart is frozen over Nothing will thaw it out And the night is drawing closer As you give me back my clothes and my self-doubt Yeah our time's up, and the storm's here There's the sound of crystallized tears And it really makes me wonder Am I cold enough for you now For you now

You think I can just forget, think I could forgive you You think I'm a gentle soul, that I'd give my life to kiss you

But here I am, dancing in the snow It too me way too long, I should have let you go Don't say that I'm the one who told you so I won't come back to you anymore

'Cause now my heart is frozen over Nothing will thaw it out And the night is drawing closer As you give me back my clothes and my self-doubt Yeah our time's up, and the storm's here There's the sound of crystallized tears And it really makes me wonder Am I cold enough for you now For you now

You say I'm an ice queen So where's my crown You say I'm an ice queen So you better bow down

And now my heart is frozen over Nothing will thaw it out And the night is drawing closer As you give me back my clothes and my self-doubt Yeah our time's up, and the storm's here There's the sound of crystallized tears And it really makes me wonder Am I cold enough for you now For you now

You say I'm an ice queen So where's my crown You say I'm an ice queen So you better bow down

@nadine

I really like these lyrics. They are relatable, and you have many great metaphors in here.

The phrase about giving back my self-doubt brings back a sad memory. Why do we let them do that to us?

@beacon

This is a bop, and this one of the best songs I've heard from you. It all fits so well together. So well written. Great setting.

First thing I'm struck by is the by the rhythm and instrumentatoin that bounces and floats. A neat base and arrangement.

Some beautiful evocative lyrics. But the lyrics and phrasing really help the whole thing float and are integrated wonderfully. Really strong song, Robyn!

Great imagery throughout! Accomplishing anything fawmtronica in an hour seems like next-level stuff to me. Powerful lyric, solid melody. Nice work!

The whole thing is great--your vocals never fail to impress! I especially like the music; it's catchy and immediate and utterly poppy in a really appealing way that makes we want to keep listening after it's over. Just outstanding!

Hi Robyn, Getting better and better. Nice harmonies. the melody is like a beautiful butterfly playing amongst the wildflowers. What is a FAWMtronica?

Remarkable that this was written so quickly - it sounds like a finished item to me, and a really good track. Mine are a shambles when i spend all day on them.

I hope it grows on you because it got to me straight away. If you're taking suggestions (apologies if not), I'd lose "and my self doubt" - it would sound even chillier.

I really like this.

Dug the appearance of "crystallized tears" in this write--quite a novel phrase and apropos, @robynmackenzie . Interesting trip through this troubled relationship--more than one that just stinks on ice, its frigidness is palpable. Cool write.

That rhythmic synth draws the listener in right from the start. I love the off-beat vocals. And the lyrics are superb, as are the vocals/harmonies. I loved the "ice queen....crown....down" This whole song is a keeper! @klyma makes a very good point - a skirmish captures the energy and innovation of the moment, but performing it live (eventually) will smooth out any rough edges.

A lot of good stuff here. That line about your clothes and self doubt is a keeper!

You can always edit out the clunk later. Play this live and you'll know what must go.

Nice take on the "cold" part of the prompt and I like the electronic beat. Those synths that come in in the second verse give it a lift too - nice variations throughout.

(My brain has just changed ice queen to ice cream when we got to the end. Sorry about that...)

Birthday things, what sort of excuse is that. :-). Ha ha. A good one I guess. I think this is darned good for an hour, nicely paced with all those nice electronic touches.

nice modern electronic sound, the writing is superb and your delivery is spot on. really nice job all round here

That's a lot of song for an hour's work really well done. I like the electronic music, it suits that theme somehow. The line about "you gave me back my clothes and my self doubt" is brilliant lyric writing, the whole things rocks. My first listen this morning, it's worth getting up for!
