15: Phenol Gravity Well

by @frozenlonesome

Liner Notes

One of my goals for FAWM was to use my newly acquired Kilpatrick Audio Phenol in a track. (Photo is of the actual patch.) It is a fully patchable two oscillator synthesizer. I’m a total modular newbie having avoided the rabbit hole for many reasons, mostly financial. I wasn’t looking for this but it came my way via a trade with a nice fellow from P.E.I in late January 2025. It’s a bit of a strange beast and I’m definitely still figuring it out. No external fx or post processing were used in this track.

@willow1

This brings me back to my Moog playing Dad’s explorations when I was a child, love it so much.

I've been playing a videogame called Balatro while I listen and the menu music happened to be in the same key with this song so you even managed to sample something by accident! This is really cool.

This is like if the WGBH Boston audio logo from the late 70s did some acid. And I mean that in the best way possible! I'm surprised and impressed with anybody who can get anything semi-coherent to come out of a modular. All I ever get are robot farts.

Enjoy your new gear!

Nice experimental work, some unique sounds! I got Vcv rack to avoid the hardware space/cost and have done some experiments with it as well from time to time, it is fun for sure!

@fuzzy

I am obsessed with this kind of hardware, mostly cos I know nothing about it so it seems like magic to me. This is like riding on a little rollercoaster. But a fun one, not one of those giant things. This is actually pretty humorous for some reason. Good luck in your future wrestling with the technology!!

Ooh, west coast madness, good on you for doing a track with unknown hardware, very spacey!
