sentimental

Liner Notes

#rock (?) #jazz #choral (?) #dramatic

this one spent like a week in purgatory (ironic for a song with religious themes) before I committed to being very dramatic with it. I was going for Thom Yorke and I'm not sure how close it got (feels closer to Evanescence to me haha.) I really like how the bridge turned out, it's wild. Might try and spin that into a separate song. Again, I feel like I maybe got excessive with the background vocals

Lyrics

i was in a dream waking on a city street a nameless sleep, complacency in my bones

voices of an angel , sentimental though I am i didn’t know what i know then

heaven isn’t better when the color’s weathered i can’t run after what was never there

stitches in a sweater, sentimental though I am i didn’t know what i know

money on the table writing on the wall no one is a saint everybody’s keeping score

war paint eyelids money on the table no one here is safe no one here is stable

so this is mental don’t be complimentary if you can’t say exactly what you mean that scream behind your eyes isn’t as quiet as you think

sentimental, sentimental though I am i didn’t know what i know then

This is so my kind of jam. LOVE the vocals - all of it, including every little bit of the background stuff which is 100% NOT excessive...heck give me MORE of it cause its so good. The bass is great. Moody but with that slow burn against the vocals and drums.
The stabby on the beat synth/guitar/whatever in the background that comes in at :44 adds to this sinister feel of the track.
The 'hi-hats' sounds so cool, like you're using some other kind of sound as hats or just manipulated them; they sound organic and sweepy. Excellent rhythm on the drum track; perfect flavor for this vibe. Not familiar with the artist references in your liners, but if they sound nearly this cool i might have to check them out. And I think that's the thing with this track - to me yes its ominous but its also just so friggin cool sounding. This is the feel and sound that I love; the kind of stuff I used to seek out and add to my library. I also LOVE the lyrics - i'm not good at 'catching on' to meanings behind stuff, so they are super mysterious to me...and I love that kind of stuff when its set to this style of music. yeah, love everything about this.

There are so many great lines here. I had to review them a few times before hitting the play button. The arrangement fits perfectly and I'm mind-seared over your delivery. I will agree with you that the bridge is bangin' and that's a highlight for sure. This is a nice find in the AM.

I love the trippy production in this. Extremely creative while keeping your attention. Really love this. There's all these really great harmonies and a nice bass groove.

Sheesh, this is an epic journey! So ominous and eerie. Super strong lyrically here, all the religious connotations combined with dark thoughts is very beguiling. That bass riff is so grounding and massive, love it. And the percussive ‘knives sharpening’🔪 just adds to the vibes. Sounds like you went all out with this one, and defs never too many BV’s. If you’re having fun with it and hear another voice in the church choir, just let them sing I say!

Ooo this is way darker than anything I've heard you do before. I see the Thom comparison a bit, probably reminds me more of Massive Attack or something. That sliding bassline is so fucking cool. No such thing as excessive with your BVs :P The 'write it on the table' bit is so mad, I can't work out what's going on with the key but I love it.

@leepat

sounds like a purgatory hangover to me :) bass carries it through like a thump in the temple. Yorke seems far away, this is closer to the nether rasps of fallen angels... my sweater would be in stitches, if it weren't so... sentimental
