Vagabond

Liner Notes

#acoustic #americana #lullabye This came to me outta the blue. Just a title I had in mind for awhile. But loosely based on a character i see in my town that walks up and down main street with a small backpack. Not meant as a judgement, but more an admiration of the vagabond lifestyle. Features some ooohs and hums to help put the kids to sleep.

Lyrics

He woke up today, and he heard the sea Said, this is the life for me He felt the warm sun upon his face
Felt lucky to be so free

They called him the last vagabond he followed his heart and the sun He carried his life in one small case He’d travel from state to state

Refrain: Oooh vagabond, he wants nothing from you at all He spends his days out on the road spreads joy wherever he goes

But when you look behind his eyes sadness and fears, arise he never says from where he came or gives you his real name

Last week he woke near a mountain stream before that on the desert floor he travels light from land to sea never says why, or what for

Refrain:

Hed say I’m only here for a good time not here for a longtime He’s on the road before you know to the next town off he goes

First off, I love the word "Vagabond", it certainly makes a great title and lyric. It's a timeless Country Western feeling song about this mysterious drifter who intrigues people and spreads joy but has some ghosts in his past. Again, I love that you write about your surroundings out West, it's a solid theme throughout your songs.

This has a sing along quality that reminds me of an old Irish folk song. Kind of like the recent challenge on here to rewrite a public domain song. Sort of has that feel. Of a song passed along with lyrics changed through generations. I like how you captured different sides of her personality from the fun seeking nomad to the darkness you see behind his eyes. Catchy song. Well done.
