Watching the Stars from this Desert
Skirmish: Desert - use it as a noun... (@robinleaf)Liner Notes
A couple of days ago, I started noodling around on the bass, and improvised a thing I liked enough to record it, and then fell asleep. Today I added guitar and improvised background vocals until they suggested a story, and added words.
Lyrics
Watching the Stars from this Desert Deirdre M Murphy
In the sky above this desert, there’s so many stars to see Shining through the dry air, no clouds between them and me
The stars above this desert call me to the pathway home But my spaceship crashed, and I have no way to roam
I can’t reach my people, though it’s beautiful down here And the humans don’t like aliens, they say I’m just too queer
I watch the sky from this desert, though the stars are my home Someday, maybe, they’ll find me, and once again I will roam

I love the image. Desert and night sky face to face. And a lost alien in the middle. I felt some kind of déjà-vu... It took me time to remember it but it reminded me of a piece of contemporary classical music composed by Olivier Messiaen, an alien of his own kind, called... From the canyon to the stars ! Maybe there's hope for your alien ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Des_Canyons_aux_%C3%A9toiles... #tit4tat if you want
This was a really cool idea, and so well executed. Those backing vocals are really good. Massively contributed to the disorientation of the narrative.
It kind of feels like I'm half expecting Clint Eastwood to turn up on his horse, in some western film....
The improvised vocals work well.
Love the melody and the vocals are beautiful. Interesting idea - in a place of beauty, but completely trapped. Love the atmospheric vibes. #tit4tat
I love the lyrics and the haunting vibe of this song! Really unique and poetic! 🙌😍
A haunting sound, and some some beautiful imagery of the desert sky and Earth as an alien world.
Is the second-to-last stanza perhaps one with double-meanings?
I really liked the melody, and the ambient vocals added nicely to the feel of the story. Having lived in the high desert I really got the visual of the stars through the desert sky. I totally enjoyed this. :)
The background vocals really added to the song's vibe, ambiance, just overall feel. Cool idea!
Beautifully poignant song. Very nice take on the prompt.
