Looking For My Yesterday ❤️

This title came up in the slack chat and I wrote a song (as one does in FAWM!) I wanted this to be a piano ballad with acoustic and electric guitar sparsely put int he arrangement but my tools are not working and neither are my fingers. Guitar it is. Which is funny because the song is intentionally left open to interpretation but sprouted from my own struggle in working with my muse.

Lyrics

My mind is drifting backwards In echoes all around Searching through the darkness Until a light is found

Don't tell me that it's easy Don't tell me what to do Don't tell me to quit judging Or if I should approve

And I'm still looking for my yesterday

I keep hearing footsteps Reflections near and far Afraid that I'm still falling And will land a bit too hard

I struggle with the problem A riddle or a test My voice fades into silence Before I can confess

That I'm still looking for my yesterday

And though my fingers fumble And though I've lost my voice I'll survive the struggle And I will make my choice

I know I'll find the light If I persevere I know not where I'm going But I cannot stay here

It may not be tomorrow It may not be next week But I will keep pursuing That which I know I must seek

And I'm still looking for my yesterday I'm still looking for my yesterday

Great refrain, the instrumentation coming off the end is great and does a good job of echoing the verses so well, very catchy. I like it. Would be interesting to hear it as a piano ballad. The refrain lyrics are very interesting, especially when paired with the last verse where it is forward looking.

@slusk

The lyrics gave me associations to the movie "Memento" in which the story runs backwards in time and the protagonist don't remember what happened the day before.

I had to come listen after I saw that title! I really enjoyed my listen! I really like the chord progression you have used here, and the defiant-feeling delivery of the vocals. You very much are signaling not to tell you what to do in the way you're singing, not just your words! My favorite lines: "It may not be tomorrow It may not be next week But I will keep pursuing That which I know I must seek"

That opening sequence of chords, and the (minor 4 switch?) in the chorus. Super cool and great melody.

The sentiment in this song is just absolutely lovely.

"I know not where I'm going/but I cannot stay here" is a line AND life motto.

Guitar is basically a cool piano. Just hit it with hammers!!! Always love hearing your tunes. You really belt em out. You also have that touch of whimsy found in the like of pavement…which I love

The vocal and acoustic delivery is very reminiscent of early Adam Sandler.

The looking forward/back juxtaposition makes the lyric very interesting.
