Black Age - Blood Age

Liner Notes

Emplate: I've seen lots of political metal songs this FAWM (wonder why that is…). Knowing myself, @sapient, @bamsekarhu and @hmorg to all share a fiery love for black/death metal and a burning hatred for injustice and bigots, I thought why wouldn't we join our forces, combine these elements and spit venom over the oppressors?

This might be the proudest moment of my FAWMing years. It's not necessarily the best song I've written for this challenge (don't get me wrong, though, I'm pretty damn pleased with the composition), but bringing these powerhouses of FAWMian black death darkness together transcends anything I've done before.

Sapient came up with a great title for our collective. So, it is with the utmost pride I give you… The Four Horsemen of the FAWMpocalypse!

Bamsekarhu: This was an absolute UNIT of a collaboration! Such a privilege to work with such distinguished metal monseigneurs! Just loving the throaty bellows of my co-conspirators. Hoping for this one to become a yearly tradition already 😀

As stated above, times are dark, so dark must the music be as well. Hopefully this, too, shall pass.

Production deets for those so inclined: Everything was mixed and mastered in Cubase 13 pro. Synths were Plogues Sforzatron and Eastwest’s String Machine ran through Kazrog’s lovely Synth Warmer. Drums were Bogren Krimh, run through some saturation and 1176 compression. Vocals were run through Gain reduction, 1176 and brainworx SSL 4000E.

Master chain was True Iron -> steinberg multiband compressor -> brainworx Masterdesk.

Sapient: What an absolute powerhouse of a collab. I'm in awe of these 3 chaps, and working with them was a delight. \m/ >..< \m/

hmorg: It was a joy and a privilege to take part in this. Love you guys!

Lyrics

Verse 1 (Bamsekarhu) A pox, most vile, upon their flesh Curses untold upon their heads Desecration upon their despicable graves Oh, no rest upon their wretched souls

Their skin, flayed by their own tools of oppression Tanned brittle by their venomous greed Their flesh, torn by the starving Made tender by the salt in their wounds

And their limbs, that used to wield power Withered and atrophied by their sloth Grown fat and soft by their ravenous hunger Severed be by our righteous wrath

Chorus (all) Black age Tyrants fall Blood age Rise to the throne

Verse 2 (Hmorg) All their power is for naught Our eyes are open and watching The fire of this world is ours to wield All that they have we will take from them They hold no power over us No more secrets remain We see through their stinking skulls Where the bullet pierced a hole

Chorus (all) Black age Tyrants fall Blood age Rise to the throne

Verse 3 (Sapient) Rend their hearts Claw out their eyes Stomp their filth Into unholy ground The meek shall not Inherit the earth They will rise And watch it burn

Outro

Emplate: Break the chains Of the blind

Sapient: Bind the scars Of the broken

Hmorg: Mend the wounds Of the infirm

Bamse: Lay to rest The last injustice

This is AWESOME! Wow people, talk about a great collab. Love the horsemen theme for the project, love the epicness of the slow build. Great vocals, great riffs. This one surely will be released, right? We want more, we want more!

@hyssop

This is jaw dropping! Absolutely phenomenal! The guitar solos had me flayed & floating. Love the growls, perfect for declaring pain back to those causing it. Really awesome work all!

@sierain

Well, this is epic. I like how the drums STILL get more intense in the very end.

@emplate, @sapient, @bamsekarhu and @hmorg

there's too much nonsense in metal (esp. black metal, which i love) so it's truly heartening to hear comrades flying the flag like this.

AND THAT RIFF AT 2m30s - UNHOLY SMOKES!!

shades of BOLZER in some of the guitar riffs and occasionally OLD MAN GLOOM in the the vocals (one of you sounds a bit like aaron turner)

i appreciated the addition of production notes, too

PLEASE COLLAB AGAIN

EDIT :::: any way this track can be downloaded? i'd like to keep a copy of this if that's OK...

Love the mountain top guitar solo that precedes the vocals coming in. Truly brutal outro vocal section, y'all.

@nadine

What a lineup! Just reading the names, I already expected some dark metal power, and that's what I got. A BIG and moody production. Cool intro. I love the drums, the synth layers, and the heavy vocals in the chorus. Such a cool idea to give everybody their own verse, so you could show your own style before we're embraced in darkness and epic guitars. Only one thing: everybody's vocals could be a tad louder in the verses. +1 for annual tradition.

@povosos

Grand opening serves the rest of the song so well! And when it kicks in, it is so good damn good. I can hear the great production and ideas coming together, creating something epic and special. Next year, 27th of February, I am going to ask for this collab, if it haven't happened yet at that point.

Chaotic, violent, cathartic! I can feel the strong rainy wind blowing over the mountain.

Silly amount of raw power here! Great production, has still space to breathe, very clear, powerful and punchy, all, the song the performance the production. Wow, truly a great FAWM moment!

I can second this: "Hoping for this one to become a yearly tradition already"
