Practising Guitar
by @edwinb
Liner Notes
My local music shop is closing down in a few days, which makes me sad, but not so sad that I didn't go in to see what they were selling in their clear out. I bought a parlour #guitar, which I don't know how to play. I wrote this little ditty, with too many chords, in the hope that it'd make me practise, unlike all the last times I've tried to learn to play
I really was noodling with this just after midnight. But quietly. I waited until today to try recording :). Perhaps I should have waited longer... and perhaps next FAWM it will not sound so #clunky :). But for now, this is just what it has to sound like... sorry neighbours.
Lyrics
There's banging on the ceiling Screaming through the walls Ringing on the bell and someone Shouting through the door
You'd think when it's gone midnight They'd try to keep it down So antisocial, to make Such a dreadful sound
I wish that they would stop it or At least not bang so hard I can hardly hear myself Practising guitar
Knocking on the window Say I'm driving them to drink That sounded like a threat of what They'll do with my spare strings
I wish that they would stop it or At least not bang so hard I can hardly hear myself Practising guitar
They'll be begging me for tickets When I surely am a star But No-one wants to lis[G/F#m]ten when you're Practising guitar

What incredibly rude neighbours! I will always listen to you.
well done guitar! clever to start a cycle. play a song to learn guitar to write a song to post better to write a song. and so it goes
For having played guitar for a matter of days, this is a very good play. I also love a meta lyric, and I love the cheekiness of the story. Good job.
Nice one! And yeah, gotta say this is the opposite of clunky. Might be harder than a uke... or maybe it's just different? ;)
When you tagged this with clunky I came in expecting clunky. I literally don't hear any clunkiness? I had a good laugh at the lyrics though witty and funny very nice! :D
Hmm I don’t hear any clunkiness, this is a totally legit guitar song. I love the meta lyrics (I never meta lyric I didn’t like!) but who could ever be mad at such a sweet little chord progression?? Sounds like you need better neighbors :) if this is you still learning, I’d say you’re already well on your way!
I can think of several instruments that would be much worse to hear a neighbor practicing on!
Ah, gone midnight! Your narrator is lucky. Our neighbours enforce a very strict no instrument playing from 22:00 to 10:00!
Fun one, I think on the evidence of this you will be an accomplished guitarist before next FAWM.
