Escalation

Liner Notes

Nice prompt. I chose The Future, by Naomi Alderman. Opened it to page 311. The chapter is called 'Things have a tendency to escalate". I made up the rest...

Lyrics

Things have a tendency to escalate That’s just the way things are And as the sun rose like a scalpel to the retina I remembered your name and who you were

The world has a way of turning on a dime
That's just how it goes, no use in denying it And as the light poured in, it cut through the silence
I wondered if you'd ever remember my smile

Time has a habit of slipping through your fingers
That's just the rhythm of your song The shadows stretched like a breath held for too long
I wanted us to belong

Things have a tendency to escalate That’s just how things are I remember your name And who you were

Love the similes, especially 'sun rose like a scalpel to the retina'. Absolutely love the thought process. Nicely done 🙇‍♀️

"Time has a habit of slipping through your fingers" very poignant, especially coming at the end of the FAWM

nice to see how you built the song around the first line and went from there. It's really cool try and imagine the work process. Those background vocals are superb, and the sound of the track, sounds good, wide stereo, great guitar sounds and mixed well together with the vocals. all in one hour. cheers man.

Wow, sunrise like "a scalpel to the retina" is a big-time wakeup call to start this. That is awesome. Also really like shadows stretching "like a breath held too long." And finally I remember "who you were". This song has a lot of depth and punch.

Fascinating use of the prompt leading to a pretty cool song structure. I was also struck by the use of the word "scalpel" in the first verse (describing the sunrise) followed by the light "cutting in" during the following verse. The whole song seems to encapsulate time, and how fungible it can be. Great song.
