Liner Notes

#collaboration #acousticonetake When I started on preparing music for this, there was another version of music for Patty's fine lyrics -- now I see (as I'm posting) there is yet another version. Hopefully it's fun for the listener (especially Patty) to hear the different takes. This one is very stripped down but hopefully supports the lyrics in a way that you can appreciate Patty's words (as both of the other versions do).

Patty says: I am thrilled that Paul posted his take on these lyrics. I didn't know if anyone would want to work with these lyrics, and now we have 3 versions! So much fun. I like the opening beat of Paul's song, and the singer/songwriter vibe seems to fit just right. I'm so glad I posted this for multiple collabs, because it is eye-opening to see how different artists interpret the same words.

Lyrics

V1 Tucked in the wall down an alley way In a part of town gone to seed The sign went missing years ago You can still smell a hint of weed

V2 The store takes you back to that time in the past When the music reached into your soul The songs that hit you right in the heart Joni Mitchell to Rock ‘n Roll

Ch Welcome to Vintage Vinyl The records you never outgrew They’re alive at Vintage Vinyl The songs that feel most like you Your music’s all here at Vintage Vinyl The first time you heard it, you knew

V3 Back in the day, Milo ran the place He was friends with Roberta and Glen My girl and I hung out there a lot It was cool when a star dropped in

V4 Some of the albums cost thousands today Makes me wish I’d saved all of mine Or bought some extras and stashed them away I’d be rich after all this time

Ch Welcome to Vintage Vinyl The records you never outgrew They’re alive at Vintage Vinyl The songs that feel most like you Your music’s all here at Vintage Vinyl The first time you heard it, you knew

Br Don’t get me wrong I love modern music The new songs I hear all around me But the ones that stay with me Are the ones from the 60’s From that hole in the wall down an alley

Ch Welcome to Vintage Vinyl The records you never outgrew They’re alive at Vintage Vinyl The songs that feel most like you Your music’s all here at Vintage Vinyl The first time you heard it, you knew

Yes! What a great sound! Very riffy with the cool rythym. Love the nostalgic feel in the lyrics. Wonderful story telling and expressive delivery. Fabulous song!

Opening reminded me a bit of "45" by Elvis Costello. Great sentiment in this song-I can see why so many people wanted to set these lyrics. I caught my son trying to swipe my original Sgt. Pepper with the mustache page still in it-stopped him in his tracks! Don't mess with my albums!!!!

Oh what a mega tribute but how intersting that in our local town weve not had a music selling shop for years and now we've got a vinyl store. I love the flow of the lyrics to the chug guitar sound to those magical lyrics. Top collab guys

excellent tribute to those old record stores that shaped our early musical tastes. i especially related tot he verse about the stars dropping in, as those were some memorable moments in my own history of selling records. i like pauls interpretation of the lyrics because he really sounds like a record store guy.

Oh I love this lyric, so full of detail and colour. And the gentle acoustic setting is perfect. Great collab.

I really like this storytelling lyric about a used record store and how we still love the music of our youth. This is a charming song with a wonderful laid-back melody. Great song you two.

I like this sparse instrumentation. And as a lifelong collector of records I really can relate to this! "Or bought some extras and stashed them away I’d be rich after all this time" - yes, if I only knew then what I know now... I hope there'll be some time travelling soon!
