Rich Again
Liner Notes
Not sure what happened here. I might have been possessed by the ghost of an early-70s singer-songwriter uneasily perched between the counterculture and light entertainment.
If anyone fancies writing a breezy but not frivolous woodwind arrangement for the third verse, I won't step in your way.
Lyrics
v1 Where I used to live was high up on the hill Could be seen from miles around A yes-sir-no-sir world of marble and silk I got used to looking down Two cars lined up on the drive Two dogs to keep us safe and sound The only ones above us were in heaven We were the envy of the town
v2 I always say that I was lonely on the hill Life is better nowadays With the honest, the true and the real I always like to know my place See this smile upon my face See the holes in my jeans See the dirt under my fingernails Think on how it could have been
ch Oh I wish I could be rich again Feet up and smoking my cigar I'd give up my integrity Goodbye to reality Who needs all these friends? I could be rich again I could be rich again
Verse: Gmaj7, A7 Γ4 F#7, Bm, Bm7/A C#m/G#, C#/F, F#m, F#m7 D7, A7 F#7, Bm, D
Chorus: G, Gdim7, Fmaj7 Bb, C7sus4, Dm G, Gdim7, Fmaj7 Bb, C7sus4, Gmaj7

Love those jazzy chords and the imagery in the lyrics. Although friends and integrity sound pretty good too. ππΆπ
Breezy is absolutely the vibe here, but pay attention and there's a sweet mix of melancholy, regret kicking about with a certain satisfaction. I love this kind of thing... A sort of make yer own mind up song π
Agree there's a Ray Davies feel to this. Nice work!
I love the piano on this. The lyrics put me in mind of the Village Green-era of the Kinks, kind of pastoral with a kick. Good work!
the piano is delightful from first bar, lovely progression and feel. your vocals are great in this, i was already thinking that and we get the treat of those harmonies which are delicious. really nice jon!
