Rewind (to 1989)

by @aflinner

Liner Notes

This one was finished in February, but the demo wasn't done yet. Definitely wanted to share this one because I'm not sure how much play it'll get beyond FAWM, and it was fun to do. Dust off your VCR and get ready to go back to school. Hope you enjoy the trip.

Lyrics

Back before I had perspective on the way things used to be All my movies were magnetic, and they played on channel three No one I knew had a cell phone, and the world wide web was still an unseen place

Now my ears ring rock and roll, but all my joints know is the blues I take back my adolescence through the movies of John Hughes 'Cause it makes me feel nostalgic, and that's something I want more and more these days

Can we hit rewind to 1989?

This is what I remember: Multiplication tables Photosynthesis The executive, legislative, and judicial The Oregon Trail The Pledge of Allegiance Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin The prepositional phrase George Washington Carver Fulton's Folly Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell Compound fractions One-inch margins The food pyramid The Presidential Fitness Test And Saturday

Can we hit rewind to 1989?

This is a great song-- I wish I could rewind to 1989 sometimes too...

My kids are now about the age I was in 1989. Sometimes when they ask me something, I answer and then explain “Well, that was true before google.” This song feels like an exploration of the bizarre truths we used to hold as self-evident. Like George Washington Carver - he seemed to sit right there in the center of the known world. I liked both pieces of the song a lot.

How did I miss you this FAWM?!?!? This is certainly a different side of you and I love it. Love the different guitar sounds, and the list of memories from my younger days. Love this.

Love the opening sound effects. I'm just a little older than you, so these hit a slightly different nostalgic place. The things-learned-in-school list is fun, especially with the dramatic recitation!

You’re right, it sounds like this was a fun one to put together. Great sound and you blended that modem sound so effectively.

Aaaaaaa - a modem! Blimey, that takes me back... This is indeed a massive nostalgia trip. And with every day advancing, it IS sometimes fun to look back and remember how all this felt.
