I Still Got My Guitar

by @jeremykazoo

Liner Notes

A protest song but much more personal than you might read into it.

I tried Oblique Strategies (think Skirmishes but in the 70's) while assembling this. Helped me sculpt the lyric a lot. I always wanted to try a song using some.

I broke out a Kazoobie plastic #kazoo for this one to get that extra cut that my usual Schilling tin kazoos don't give.

I think this is the end of my first #FAWM. What a damn trip, I'm so delighted to end on a song like this. I had no real idea where this month would take me but it exceeded all expectations. Thank you FAWM community you guys are astonishing. All of you.

Lyrics

I still got my guitar

Hateful words are all you are I can withstand your war If a biome of hate is all that you have Then leave your place and mine separate

I still got my guitar And still got my voice I still got my kazoo And you can pry it from my cold dead hands

Revenge on a screen from afar fills my heart with tar Then I remember what you are And it suddenly doesn't matter anymore

Because

I still got my guitar I got my voice I still got my kazoo And you can pry it from my cold dead hands

Ive got rhythm And you just rhyme I have a dream ahead You go back in time I have an account You are unaccountable We've both made mistakes But yours are indictable

I still got my guitar I got my voice I still got my kazoo And you can pry it from my cold dead hands

I love the dynamic contrast between verse and chorus. There's an understated power in the verse but it's rather obvious in the energy of the chorus. And I love how you make a kazoo seem like a weapon (which music and instruments and art all are, of course) with the "you can pry it" line.

Really cool chord walkdown on the turn around. So glad the first song I heard by you did in fact, have a kazoo. Definitely killing the 70s vibe

I think this is great. It resembles some early 1970ies songs I (almost) remember. Not often you hear a kazoo these days. It's like a fuzz guitar. The contrast between the verses and the choruses keeps the attention up. Strong lyrics as well.

Dude, that kazoo almost sounds like a fuzzy sitar - far out. Digging the contrast between sections, and the opposites part had some great wordplay.

First off...Love the verse melody. Guitar moves so gracefully with the vocals. Really like the change to the next section. Reminds me a bit of Jethro Tull. Love the contrast between sections. Lyrics are very strong too and the story is really consistent. I hope you get this out to the world! Great job!! :)

I love this! Never expected a kazoo to sound so perfect.

Great lyrics (this line in particular got me: "Ive got rhythm /And you just rhyme") and powerful guitar.

Welcome to FAWM!

Protest kazoo is the future, I demand a choir. I love the stops in the guitar in the chorus l, makes it feel like a proper anthem, and then main riff has a real rhythmic quality.
